New TII owner needs help

Ok guys I have got a few questions and I looked all over this forum for the answers but this thing is huge I apologize if these are dumb....

1st..... I have owned my 87 for about 4 months now, one thing that I have noticed is I am sucking down coolant....I have looked all over and cannot find any leaks, my car overheats sometimes and when the car idles for longer than like 30 sec's my heater goes to blowing cold air I have already replaced the thermostat and that did not change anything...any ideas??

2nd.... When am into the gas all the way in 3rd 4th and 5th my car starts to hick up now I have changed the air filter but not the spark plugs I am wanting to do that next and am looking for the best ones to use so any suggestions on the hick up and the spark plugs will be greatly appreciated.

3rd.... Please dont get mad at me because I have seen the threads of people getting yelled at about wheels but here it goes....I have been to the conversion chart for wheels and have come to this conclusion....I am looking to put RX-8 wheels on my car. I have found that they are the the same lug pattern and they are 18" X 8" wheels with a 50mm offset now that means it will put me 23mm closer on the inside.....will these wheels work for me if I use spacers and if so what size spacers will I need??

Thank you for your patience with me and also any responces

i can maybe help on number 1 and 2. number 3 is outside my personal experiance as of right now.

1. the reason your loosing coolant is most likely because your coolant seals are bad. when this happens coolant passes by the seals into the rotor housing and either burned up with the gasses or expelled out into the exhaust. depending on where the leak is you could also be leaking when the car is off to. but you wont see it .. what you will get is alot of white smoke when you start the car and pretty much as you drive. . overheating a rotary is pretty much the worst thing you can do .. Once a rotary is overheated you can pretty much kiss it goodbye. you might wanna hold off on the upgrades and save up for a rebuild. cuz once the coolant seals go you should pretty much get a rebuild, but once you over heat you might wanna look into a new engine completly. depending on how bad the internals look. Overheating is instant death for rotary's

2. you might be talking about the 3800 hestation. maybe not. but if it happens at around 3800 . this could be a grounding problem. as the car is 17 years old the grounds start to loose their effectiveness . it could also be a fuel problem. ive never had a problem with my 7's in terms of the fuel pump skipping out . my na in fact (as pretty much all na's) runs rich most of the time . my t2 well was in fairly decent rich stage as well.

on that note i would be inspecting the engine for severe damage and maybe possibly looking into a rebuild or used engine. hell that might solve your hesitation or skipping problem.

Thanks for the response......

I have been checking for smoke and my car doesn't put out and ounce of smoke also I guess I should have explained the overheating thing alittle better. Now the car has actually never overheated but it has gotton very very hot more than once, but never in the red zone, but the needle bouces around alot when it is idling is that normal?? Also bout how much would it cost to replace the coolant seals, my motor only has 80K on it what should I do, the engine I would hope is still good??

On the second point....
My hesitations are more at the higher rpms, now it only does when I am completely into the gas, if I let off just a little bit but still accelerating hard it stays strong with no hesitations

Thanks

you can do a bubble test on the engine to verify the seals but this does not guarantee that they are good or bad, you can pressure test the cooling system to see where the coolant is going, pull the spark plugs to see if they are wet with coolant and if any coolant is coming out internally from the engine verifying the coolant seals are bad.

for the second problem, could be a semi plugged fuel filter or fuel injectors. if you have a slightly modified engine it could be hitting fuel cut, if it has a problem with the wastegate it can also cause this problem, how high is your boost guage reading when it starts to hiccup? our cars tend to have a mystery hesitation at 3800 RPMs, but your description doesn't lead me to think this is the case.
