Just put in a S5 T2 in my 89 GXL. Starts up great every time and idles, but it idles barely at 500 rpm and seems to miss every couple seconds when idling. Doesn't have any problems with acceleration and doesn't seem to miss at all when accelerating or above around 1500 rpms, but the idle is weird being so low, and I expected to run into the accelerated warm up, but it always idles around 500. The air pump was removed but I kept everything that should effect my idle/warm up.

Currently I only have a 3" downpipe for the exhaust, I don't know if the lack of back pressure has any effect on this. Their is a fmic, ported wastegate, and supra turbo fuel pump. No other performance modifications that I can think of.

Should I be checking timing or is there something else that could be causing this?

Check your plugs, TPS, and Idle adjustment screw. If all is well then MAYBE it could be timing, but I HIGHLY doubt it.
