A battery serves one main purpose. To store enough electricity to turn the starter and supply a small amount of electricity to the ignition system until the car starts and the alternator takes over. If you have enough battery to turn the starter there is enough to fire the coils so that should have no effect on a "hot no start" condition. The new alternator is equally ineffectual as its not supplying any great amount of current during cranking.

I have a hard time believing either of those two repairs would affect the hot start (or in this case a simple "no restart" condition) Its far more likely that you have a leaking injector or two that bleeds off residual fuel pressure by leaking feul into the combustion chambers thereby flooding the spark plugs. You might want to have the injectors checked and or serviced.

Ok Whoever here has done the ATF trick or used 2 stroke oil instead how much 2 stroke oil should I put into the rotor housing? And then do I pull the egi fuse and turn it over, let it sit for awhile, then start it up?

I used the atf trick to get a cold motor started. I don't think it's gonna help resolve the hot start issue. Most likely you have a leaky injector or your motor is is on its way out. You could do the atf trick to soak the seals in the engine and clean out the motor(wouldnt hurt). I used 1 table spoon of ATF per rotor! You have everything correct on how to do this. Just let it sit overnight.

I have recently bought an 87 TII with 111k. One owner and he took great care of the car. I just replaced the motor. It had this same exact problem. Which turned out to be very low compression!

If it is in fact a leaky injector, which ones should I look into replacing? Leading, trailing, or both?

Well if you put it that way leading. Secondary injectors do nothing when starting.
But really you might as well have them all cleaned by a prof shop.


You could just upgrade!!!

Have you done a compression check on your motor?

Mine (pretty much stock JDM S5 Turbo) is the same - reluctant to rev past 6000. It will get to 7000, but I can sense the loss of power past 6000, where it also starts to get a minor buzzing type of vibration. I suspect this is not normal even for a stock motor, since it is supposed to put out max power @6500. The engine feels strong and runs well in all other respects. I'm thinking perhaps fuel filter, but any comments/suggestions, please?

Check your fuel filter and Fuel Pump.
My friend has an 88 GXL that did the EXACT same thing. He tried batteries, the atf trick, new plugs and wires etc etc.

Turns out his fuel pump was taking a **** on him. So when he did that he checked the filter as well. It was disgusting and needed to be replaced.

It hasn't done it since.

Start by checking your fuel filter, then pull the pump out and test it.

yeah actually my car does the same thing....it doesnt turn over, and i check under trhe hood and the battery and terminal are hot! theres smoke coming from the battery too. so i have to wait until the battery cools down, i need a new battery i think. not sure bout the altenator.
