Question New to the site, need information

Hey all.
I am new to your site. I also recently purchaced a 1988 10ae rx7.
I need to know a few things, and hopefully I can get some answers without too much grief. Like I said I am new here so go easy on me.

1. What is the most logical cost/performace upgrade path for the second Gen.

2. Please explain the fs, s4, s5 denotations.

3. Which rotars were the lightest manufactured?

4. What is the maximum output of the 88 stock turbos.

5. What is the maximum boost that can be run and still maintain adaquate fuel to the engine.

6. How many cc are the stock injectors.

7. What is the most common injector upgrade, what is the general cost, and how much boost will it support.

8. Where can I get a programed ECU upgrade. Who is most reccomended.

9. What kind of horsepower can I expect to reliably run on stock internals?

10. in internals modification, What kind of modifications offer the most in engine reliability, and what modifications are needed for a high rpm motor? 8-12k?

11. at what rpms will the stock motor operate reliably ( not considering Turbo efficency, airflow, of fuel cuts) Basicly how many rpm can the stock internals handle.

Well, I guess this is the first bit of information I need to visualize the cars future. I appreciate all who take the time to pass on a bit of information. I have been tuning sports cars for about 5 years now, but am new to the work of rotary engines.

Thanks!

Welcome to the boards! The abbreviations can be found in the FAQ on the top of this forum. I'd suggest reading that through and doing a full tune-up since you just got the car.

Read all the Stickies, Archives, and FAQ's at the top of the second gen forum and they should answer most of your questions. All i can recommend is to replace the stock radiator right off the bat, it's a piece of crap, get a Koyo or something like that, all metal and dual pass.
2nd gen's take real well to suspension upgrades too.

alot of your questions have answers found in the FAQ, the stickies and FSM - as mentioned already -

but to answer a couple of them

the max. output of a stock turbo for an 88' is approx. 10-12psi....some may tell you that you can GET 15 psi out of it....but IF you can it would only be during a boost spike or a rare occasion that lasts for a split second.........I run 10 psi on my s4 with no problems...day in day out.

as far as "common" injector upgrades, there really isn't other than putting in ones biggers than the stockers. It would all depend on what power levels your looking for - then turbo sizing and boost pressure....then matching the fuel accordingly.

ECU upgrade - RTEK that will be the most...and I believe really the only.....recommended upgrade for the ECU in our cars. anything else is either independant fuel man. or full stand alone

what mods are needed for a high rpm motor....lots. balance and lightening of the entire rotating assembly...clearance the housings to allow for high rpm shaft flex.....the list is fairly long and VERY expensive.

that should get you started - welcome to the forum!!

Welcome to the RX-7 community:
Good questions - some are answered in the FAQ, along with many you haven't thought of yet.

First make sure your tune up & suspension grommets are good.

1. Assuming a medium budget the Rtech ECU, 720cc injectors, 255LPH fuel pump are maybe the best value in bolt-ons.
They are supported by the typical intake & exhaust mods.

2. (in the FAQ) s4 = series 4 = 86-88, S5 = series 5 = 89-91

3. The S6 3rd gen 93up (the counterweights must match also)

4. 250-270HP

5. With the Rtech setup the limiting item becomes the TMIC at about 12PSI.

6. 550cc/min

7. see #1,4,6

8. see #1

9. see #4 (with a FMIC, a stand alone ECU, bigger injectors >300)

10. 12K? - Your budget has to go way up here - out of my league.

11. 8K

I have a mirror FTP site with the FSM on-line at the link in my sig.
