New shifter bushings very tight.

The kit didn't come with the gasket for the tower cover plate (ring with 3 bolt holes) so I put some goo on it, and bolted it down. I'm thinking the gasket would have given me a little more space (a few thousandth's anyway). It's useable, but I was wondering how tight they are normally, after changing them. Between changing that, and the pilot bearing; It got a lot quieter in the car. The pilot bearing was making noise for a couple years, and the shifter rattled.
I dug the springs from at least 2 bushing sets out of the shift tower. It's clean as a whistle now, with new lube oil. I'm sure those nylon bushings will wear down before long, and make shifting easier, but I don't want to wear them out pre-maturely. How long do they normally last? I had all the boots, except the one that comes attached to the tower cover (inner boot), my middle boots were in pretty good shape. One had a small crack. I patched it with a bicycle inner tube patch :-) It worked pretty damned good.
Sometimes it seems like I work on this car more than drive it, but it keeps me out of the bars. I have another vehicle, so it's not a problem, and it's never stranded me. 20 thousand miles in 20 months on a $3,000 car's not bad (88 vert). Everything's been pretty cheap so far, and it's a blast to drive. I'm thinking about the TII conversion. I found a complete JDM drivetrain (including diff) for $1100, delivered. Anyone ever make their own hoodscoop, instead of buying a TII hood?

get a front mount or buy a TII hood, not worth trying to make a proper scoop.

I just recently installed my short shifter also, so I couldn't tell you. Sorry. Doesn't take very long to break it in though.
