New seals: from real world solutions

As of August 23...Rotaryaviation annouced their alloyed seals.

They say it has 700% more bending and33% harder than atkin and hurley seals.

And get this

A LIFETIME WARRENTY ON THE SEAL! If the housings are new.

It is probably an intro price which will go up once they are proven in a few engines. I am tempted to be one of the first . . .

Well if i wanted that kinda weight reduction i would just go over to my gfs house..

But back on topic can you get the stock iron ones? Or are the alum. ones the only new ones?? If so i wonder if they would count those as new housing or not..

I am still skeptical because they are made of "alloy" but no mention is made of the type of alloy. Stock seals are cast iron with a "flame hardened" tip, while Atkins are some other type of metal with no flame hardening. Atkins are said to bed in to used housings with less break in than stock seals, confirming their softer rubbing surface (not necessarily a bad thing for used housing rebuilds).

I will email them and try to get more info. Buying those seals, the O ring kit, and install gasket set from Real World Solutions and then getting the thermal pellet, FD corner seal springs and corner plugs separetely from Atkins would cost $400ish for a complete rebuild kit, minus the side seal springs which I have too many of anyhow. Compare that to $550ish for the closest alternative, being the Atkins based basic rebuild kit also offered on Real World's page.

wtf are you people talking about? Rotor housings have allways been aluminum, and are ~400 bux new from mazdatrix.

You guys are posting aluminum side housings(side plates, plates) which are one-off's made by racing beat that will cost you one left nut and both arms

New side plates are ~300 bux from mazdatrix, but you dont need thoose to get the gaurentee.

Sounds good to me. Maybe I will give it a shot once I start building up a new motor.

Edit: There is no "i" in "shot".

Don't let the price make you skeptical. It is entirely possible to make seals from better alloys for a fraction of the amount Mazda or anyone else charges us. I hope these are legit because the rebuild cost of rotary engines is quite ridiculous.

emailed them:

"Hi Victor - we'd be happy to answer any questions you might have. These seals were developed primarily to solve the "chipping" problem that the stock seals, Hurley and Adkins seem to have in the twin turbo cars. Right now we have about 4000 miles on the seals in our own test cars, as well as several sets being run in customer cars. One set is in a turbo II car that was accidentally run to detonation. So far, we've seen no sign of any seal problems after that unexpected event. The current price of $138 + shipping is an introductory price to allow us to introduce this product to the market. Once they are established the price will become comparable to Hurley prices.

Please let me know what your specific questions are and I'll get the answers for you.

Sincerely,

Laura Crook

PS - we do offer a limited lifetime warranty provided the seals are installed in an engine with new rotor housings anf the customer has proof of purchase of the new housings."

i will keep you up to date on their response to my response.
