New S5 owner, a few ? kinda long

Hello all, Just bought a 91 Convertible non-turbo 5 speed. Has 132K miles on it. Already had to do $300 in repairs, but seeing as i paid $2500 for it I guess that is expected. Interior, body, motor, and top are in great shape.

I have already replaced the shifter bushings, and made sure to put gasket sealer on the gasket (previous owner tied a bag around the shift to contain the trans fluid), the boot that bolts to the trans tunnel, replaced the headlights, and fog lights with silverstars, and replaced the "blue box" to get rid of that airbag light.

2 unresolved issues.

The highbeams and FTP lights do not work. I suspect a bad turn/highbeam switch.
Should I go with one from Mazdapartz? or try and find a junkyard local that will actually sell electrical parts?

Even after fixing the bushings for the shifter, and making sure it was properly sealed, trans gear oil is bubbling up around the shifter shaft when hot. The rubber gasket attached to the plate that bolts the shifter in looks good & tight. Is it possible the previous owner over filled the tranny? Would pulling the fluid fill plug drain the excess fluid? IN the manuals I have read it says to refill the shift extension with fluid if removed from tranny? Does this mean the gear oil in the main body, and the shifter tunnel do not mix?

Thanks.

the shift mechanism oil and the trans oil do not mix. it doesnt need to be filled up to the brim, just enough to keep everything greased. unless its bubbling into the cabin, id just leave it untill the excess leaks out and gets back to normal levels. might slime the outside of the trans but wont hurt anything else.

Hmmm...this is a little bit confusing.
The FTP lenses themselves do not light up, per se.
The headlight high beams just shoot through the FTP lenses.
So does that mean the high lights do not work?
Do the high lights work when in the up position?

Cool, as the highbeams do not work, and I have never seen the FTP lights, I assumed there were secondary bulbs in there. I only know what they are because i read the manual.

So no the highbeams do not work at all. I will go to the dealer and see if they will let me read the service manual again. Because the Haynes manual is junk.

I guess I will just let the exess oil bubble out. Since I just replaced the trans tunnel boot, it wont make it into the cabin. Just don't want to destroy the new rubber boot.

Thanks,
Pete
