new to rx7s

im new to rx7s and i might get flamed but ive never worked with rotary before but what exactly is a core???
and not just that the 86 was a non turbo engine only could a 87 13bt engine be put in it easy??? or is there something better i could do with short buget because i wanted a 91 13bt but the mechanic i talked to didnt want to mess around with all that stuff just basically buy a used engine and replace my current on but i want a 13bt i was just curious if i could just throw in a 13bt without much modifications. i just would kinda like to know. and could anyone tell me were "mazda drag racing" is located in cali??? a nd if thier stiill open and would do that kind of mod cheaply. thank you ahead of time

Core = the old part that is still in rebuildable condition.

The 13BT will fit just fine, but the labor is rather extensive, and it requires additonal parts, especially if you want to upgrade to the turbo drivetrain to handle the extra power. You can search this forum for the "TII swap" or "NA to TII" threads for more info and opinions. My opinion is that if you really want a 13BT then you should sell your car for parts and buy a Turbo II. The Turbo II only costs $500 - 1,000 more than a non-turbo of the same year and condition, so it is hardly worth converting a non-turbo. Also, you can get a running Turbo II for the same money that it's going to cost you to rebuild the 13B non-turbo engine in your car, so you may also want to take that into consideration. The insurance rates are usually the same.

check aaron cake's site he turboed his N/a rx-7 he has a big writeup on how he did it. It is a complicated and expensive procedure. Many TII owners just reccomend buying a Turbo Two to begine with because that is much easier.
