New To The Rx7 World!!!! Won't start, no fuel

Hey everybody? This is my first post so bare with me. I recently acquired an 87 Black RX7 Turbo from my mom's boyfriend. It's been sitting at his house for damn near 7 years not running. I towed it home and started getting right to work on it. Now what I can tell you is that I put a brand new battery and made sure all the fuses were checked. None were burnt out. So I decided to crank it over and it cranks over but nothing. I checked the coils and they were fine. The plugs I needed to replace. So there is spark. However the fuel. I read on how to use the jumper wire to make sure the fuel pump works...well I tried it and no fuel is going to the motor. I replaced the fuel filter and still nothing no fuel is coming. There is gas in the tank. Any advice would help. I searched the forums on what else it could be but I couldn't find anything. Any advice would be helpful.

check the fuel pump, make sure voltage (12v or damn near) is making its way to the pump. If you get 12v then the pump is bad. If no voltage is there then check the fuel pump relay. You may need to rewire your fuel pump as this is a common problem. The rewire is never a bad idea anyway, FC's are known to get low voltage to the fuel pump with electrical loads on like headlights etc. low voltage=low fuel, low fuel+boost= blown up. There are a few threads on this, search fuel pump rewire. Welcome to the wonderful world of 20 year old sports cars.

p.s. there are a few other sites that i found very useful in the past such as aaroncake.net, fc3spro.com and teamfc3s.org

Its not good to have a rotary sit for 7 years. After you fix the fuel problem put a teaspoon of oil in the lower spark plug holes. This will help lube and seal. You might want to get new sparkplugs as well. NGK ONLY

You might want to think about draining the tank and dropping it as well. Check for rust in the tank, if the car has been sitting outside it may have some rust in the tank or the sock filter is crudded up, either way limiting the flow. If your not fimaliar, a radiator shop can install a liner in the tank. If its too bad you can get a tank from Mazdatrix. While the tank is out you might as well replace all the fuel lines, sock filter in the tank, etc. I'd also put some oil in the lower plug holes and spin the engine by hand, even let it soak for a while. With clean plugs and good fuel delievery try and crank it again. Let us know how it goes.

Could it be fuel injectors?

I installed new fuel pump...it works. I tested it by jumping the yellow wire. I put new plugs. Turned over a few times and nothing. It has spark. So since I was cranking it over I thought maybe that it was flooded. When I was going to do the deflooding procedure, I pulled the spark plug and there was no gas. I'm thinking could it be the fuel injectors? Is there a way of testing them without taking off my uim. And if that's the case is there a link on how to remove your uim to get to the fuel injectors.

Yes and no. Yes there is a way to test your injectors with out removing the UIM, and no; I doubt you have the tool to do that with. The tool I speak of has a pistol grip like handle and a long straight rod that you touch an injector with. The rod picks up the inpulse that the injector is giving and lights up the handle to indicate that the injector is working. But I say just get a $5 gasket and take the UIM off and test each one of the injectors manually. Don't forget to replace the injector O-rings when you remove an injector. If you don't replace them you can get a hard to find vacuum leak on the bottom o-ring or a gas leak on the upper o-ring. OH and definately download all the Factory Service Manuals on your car. Imagine a section strictly dedicated to troubleshooting your entire fuel system... its in the FSM. many more unbelieveable sections in there as well. Every RX owner has or should have these manuals.. Good luck on your find, you won't be disapointed when you get it running. Why did it sit for 7 years?

Chris, do you have a link of the FSM for the removal of fuel injectors? The reason it sat for 7 years is because my mom's boyfriend tried to fix it when it died on him 7 years back and so he tried to fix it himself. It's been in the garage all this time and he got tired to find out what the problem was so he asked me if I wanted. And so now I have it. Yeah if you can find out a link or where to go or anymore ideas would be great.

How about we check fuel pressure before doing anything drastic.

You said you put in a new fuel pump rite. So did you prime the fuel system? If no then turn the car to the "ON" not start position wait about 8 seconds and do it again. Repeat bout 10 times then it should be primed.

Check the intake! When i got my FC that was sitting for 2 years it had a snake in it. If anything gnawed through the filter (mice) youll be sucking up parts of the filter and possibly the critters too. Unfortunately the rotary engines weren't designed to run on rodents like diesels are.

Next, make sure you did the oil in the lower plug thing. Then start cranking it over for 10 seconds on 15 seconds off with the gas peddle down. You should get something if all is well. Either it ill sound like the starter is speeding up, a pop, or the engine starts to run on its own. If you still get nothing after about 10 tries or so then you have a problem.

One last question. . .
Was the car running when it was stored? If not then was the origional problem fixed?

Sounds like the fuel lines AT the engine are crossed. Swap the two lines, the pressure and the return. Or when the fuel rails/lines were installed on the engine they were routed wrong.

The LAST thing in the system is the FPR. The return line connects to the FPR.

The FPR is the LAST thing in the system. See if that's so on your engine.
