New RX7 Owner With Some Questions

Hello,

I just bought my white 1987 RX-7 N/A a few days ago and finally now an owner. I had some questions, and was hoping maybe someone can help me. I’ve did do some reading and so far so good. I just want to be sure so I thought that I asked to be on the safe side.

1. How rare is the 1987 RX-7 Sport Edition N/A?

2. Anyway to verify that this is a real sport edition? It does have the black spoiler, black side mirrors, black molding with red pin striping, supposedly there is a LSD but I have not got underneath to verify, It does have the black seats with the red and gray stripes in the center part of the seat where your butt and back would go (interior is blue car is white). The car has no power anything (windows, locks). There is no sunroof. I looked at the front brakes and they look like the bigger brake calipers (4 piston I believe, I could be wrong). Rear disc brakes, currently has the convertible wheels (had the sport edition wheels).

Here are some pics of my new car

Thanks

I don't know, but the Sport is my favorite model. Too bad yours is missing the fender aero pieces, which unfortunately is pretty common nowadays. The spoiler on yours looks to be in better shape than average. Wow, the driver side seat bolster isn't totally destroyed, the ash tray lid isn't green, and the top of the steering wheel isn't falling apart... nice find.

There should be a white sticker inside the driver side door jam. A Sport with no sunroof would have a code of (FB43) in the top right corner. There is no collector value so it doesn't matter anyway.

I love the spoiler on the car. Mazda word in the middle and it just looks flat out nice. Don't think I would ever want to replace or change the spoiler. I'm just too much in love with it lol.

Checked the sticker on the door jam. It reads FB05...Does this mean I was duped into thinking it's a sport edition? Still happy with the car even if it's not a sport edition. Thanks for the help

Thats okay if it's a NA, my Datsun has a RB25DET so when I feel slow, I can always jump in the Z (once it's out of the shop) I do have plans for the car in the future ^^. Just trying to find out if it was really a sport model or not and to see if the seller who I bought the car from was really just trying to get rid of it or being as honest as possible. Thanks again for everyones help

Supposedly it has very good aerodynamics.

I don't see FB05 listed on my US microfiche. Maybe it is a Canadian GS model? You can ask Mazda to run the VIN to find the original trim.

True, none of the factory models are anything special, and there is no telling what has been replaced after all these years.

No offence taken at all. I'm just glad there's people here to help me out with my questions. Here are some pics of my Z...its still in the shop unfortunately. Enjoy

Here is the only pic I have of the body at the moment. Broken laptop = no more images of Z .....=( My old motor (L28ET AKA 1983 280ZX Turbo Engine)
<a href="http://s216.photobucket.com/albums/cc84/MangaFighter/?action=view&current=OldMotor.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc84/MangaFighter/OldMotor.jpg" border="0" alt="Old Motor"></a>

My new gauges being installed (Autometer Pro Comp Boost, Temp, Fuel)

New Motor in the works (RB25DET) still gotta powder coat some stuff and work out some snags that happened along the way. Painted the engine bay and removed a bunch of useless brackets too

You still have all of the original trimming too! I'd post a picture of my '87 sport, but it's been bastardized so much it's hardly recognizable. Poor thing was rolled, then had just about every body panel on it replaced. The only 'sport' thing it still has is the rear spoiler! The Sport/GTUs will always be my favorite two models.

does it say GTUs on the side
sounds like you got yourself a s4 GTUs
because the GTUs came with 4 piston calipers no sunroof, the duckbill spoiler and no power windows or door locks. Have you looked on the side when you open the drivers side door to check if there is a sticker stating the weight and other information about the car usually it might say what it is on the sticker.
Nice car by the way its pretty straight

I have a sport. But the aero side skirts things are long gone, leaving massive rust holes in their place (I'm guessing they trapped moisture earlier on in their life). My sport spoiler is in pretty rough shape so I took it off. Sport models FTW.
