New to RX7, Bought one and it kinda runs.

I have a friend that just Bought a sweet second gen RX7. I'm just a little jealous now, I bet I'll be all the way jealous if I can get it to accelerate faster than a metro 3 cylinder. I have done several checks, it started out with a clogged fuel system. I think that has been fixed with a new fuel filter.
The one thing that worries me is that I used my timing light to check the timing and it only blinked once on the l1 lead. I put the timing light on the t1 wire and it would blink about every time. It looks like the timing is set from that one blink on l1. I checked the lower coil with an ohmmeter and according to the hayes manual it tested ok. Is it possible I have a flaky (excuse me for the 4 stroke terminology) Crank sensor? Or is it as simple as the plugs and wires are bad?. I have not checked the laeding plugs yet, but the trailing plugs looked allright???(sorry 4 stroke guy here again). I still need to do a compression check. But it seems to start fairly eaisly. It idles very rough, like there's a cylinder (excuse me again) missing.
Can anybody give me suggestions on how to do a compression test properly on a rotary too. Also one more question, are the leading and trailing plugs the same thing or are they different? Thanks

Welcome. Searching for particular topics (i.e. "compression test) will yields days' worth of reading, then if you have anything specific you don't understand, most of the guys will be more than happy to help...

Thanks for your help. I did a compression check and found the front rotor was well below the compression of the rear so it looks like the $800.00 car may have turned into a $3000 car. Lots of good threads and info here.

I forgot to ask a few new questions that came up in my research. Number one what is truly the difference between 2mm seals and 3mm seals? is it desirible to use 3mm seals if the rotor housing is a little worn or is it just a stronger seal?
Also is there a difference between the leading and trailing spark plugs? a guy at an autoparts store put this notion in my head.

some say the 3mm withstands boost/knock better...but others swear stock 2 piece is just as good....3mm seals needs the rotors to be sent out and machined....its more than just direct swap during a rebuild....also....leading and trailing only differ by their heat range....one of them runs cooler than the other..not sure which is which..but turbo guys have known to run all 4 cooler plugs to prevent knock...

i hope i didnt leave anything out
