New rx-7 owner!

Hello, I just purchased a nice '88 TII. It needs some mechanical help, but nothing too bad. Engine/tranny are in great shape. It needs a RF knuckle (bent), the park brake doesn't release fully, shifter is EXTREMELY sloppy, tail lights don't work, and there is a bad exhaust leak from the manifold. A few minor things, but once fixed I should have a nice fun RX-7! My other car is a modded wrx wagon with water injection putting down 358awp on a mustang dyno -- the RX-7 will be modded plenty once it's up to snuff. I can't wait to get it up and running great; already ordered an energy suspension bushing kit, and shifter bushings. I've read the FAQ so I guess I need a light switch too! I can't wait to get a turboback exhaust, FCD, water injection, and more boost!

Uh, aren't those things supposed to lunch the trans / drivetrain when it comes close to 300hp?!??!

here's the dyno:
yeah, thats a mustang dyno, feel free to add whatever you see fit to make dynojet numbers (30-40whp). Also, feel free to call the shop, I'm well known here in KC.
I'm on the second tranny, but it was replaced for a failed rear end before it was even modded. The rear end was noisey, they replaced the tranny for no reason. I'm up to 31k miles so far, won the last divisional auto-x in SM and will be at nationals this year. If anyone would like to meet me and call BS to my face, I'll be there. Hell, I'll even let you drive my Subaru. But, why call BS? I have nothing to prove. Getting beat by a low 12 sec subaru wagon is hard for some people to swallow

I mentioned the car isn't reliable with power levels that high.
You're already confirmed that.
That's not BS.
You never mentioned the broken parts prior to that.
Good luck with your car and replacing future drivetrain parts...

Talking

Ahh, fooey to those guys!

Congrats on the RX7 buy, and welcome to the club! You'll find that the people here can be really helpful on weird **** (How many Ohms does the TPS read at WOT?), but for general stuff, goto the top of the threadlisting and find teh links for the Field Service Manual (FSM).

It'll provide you with information that's invaluble! Only hard part about using it is trying to find out which chapter your specific question is in.

Having been a tech at the Subaru dealership, here in Gainesville, Florida, I can tell you that MOST transmission failures come in the 2-to-3 shift in the WRX. It's not a DEFECT, per se, it's just a way that they (Soobahroo) can tell if you're racing it, and thus voiding your warrantee.

Blah!

Once again, congrats on the buy, and welcome to the world of rotary!

why did the BS Flag get raised??? subaru's can make power very easily. (plus they sound so nice with the horizontal 4) and he wasnt trying to talk about his subaru which is probably why he didnt mention the things that had broken...

come on guys...be nice to the new guy...

(gives new guy a hug)

haha welcome to the club man. im sure you will have a lot of fun with your 7. i had a leaky manifold gasket, along with some flanges, my parking brake didnt realease, my shifter was sloppy....i still havent fixed that damn shifter and its only like 10 bucks. maybe this weekend. oh well..

thanks guys...it seemed a little harsh in here right off the bat! BTW, my replaced subaru tranny has lasted 23k miles so far with me drag racing and auto-xing the hell out of it. I use the stock clutch which is pretty strong, but absorbs enough shock to keep the tranny together. I use an 18g w/ 8cm housing, very good match for the 2.0. Enough about the subie, I came here to talk rotory! Here are the 1st pics, the "before" shots:

The car is fine get an ra gear set for 1300 and be done with it. The ra gear set will handle 400awhp np. Gotta love the WRX if I had the money I woud have purchased one.
