New Rotary owner

Hey guys, been on here a coupla days, figured I'd say hi. I just bought an 87 TII 5-spd, it's a silvery blue color (Arctic Silver?) w/ blue interior. The car is in nice shape, only body damage is to the front bumper, lower right corner of it is broke.

It doesn't run at the moment, though I don't think I'll have too much trouble getting it running. If I can't get it running, I'll pull it out and rebuild it, need to learn the inside of a rotary anyway.

I posted pics here:

Cool, enjoy. Did you do a compression test? I would if I were you. Very nice car. Been looking for a red S5 myself but settled for a S4.

^^Cause the guy who had it didn't know anything about working on cars. For instance, he said the 2 days he drove it it wouldn't idle. Well, looked at it the other day, found the IAC motor was unplugged lol.

Right now the clutch interlock switch is bad I think, when I turn the key it doesn't do anything except click under the dash. Once I bypass that, I'm gonna try and pull the plugs and put a little trans fluid or Marvel in the chambers and see if I can't get it fired up.

Thanks for the warm welcome, I'll be pestering y'all w/ tech questions before long

BTW I forgot to mention that I got it for $400. Think it was a good deal?

yeah, not a bad deal for 400. I personally would say, rather then trying to get it to run with bandaid fixes (ATF fluid and other stuff), just do a straight up rebuild. Remove the emissions crap, port the sucker, redo your fuel stuff to eliminate the stock PD. I took the long way to do things, and well it ended up that i spent more, if i had done the rebuild right off the bat, it woulda been cheaper overall. But to each his own! Good luck with teh car, and congrads again! and just a note of advice, before you post other questions (since your new) search, search and when your done, search again, then post or you gonna get eaten alive!
