new to rotary, car wont idle

hey,
i just picked up a 87 n/a with an awesome body real cheap. engine doesnt seem to be top notch, but a new one is in the works... for the time being though i would like at least get the car in good enough shape to cruise around town.

major holdup is the idle... when it starts it will rev to 3k then drop to dead. there was a coolant leak, but previous owner insisted that it never overheated..
i fixed the leak, and refilled the coolant... still no luck.
i know my way around a piston engined car, so if you point me in the right direction hopefully i can learn the rotary thing real quickly.

any tips are appreciated.

i look forward to getting more involved in the rotaory scene.... thanks!
