new relay, now what?

I did the wiper switch repair this weekend. The problem is it did not work. I installed the new relay and verified all points made contact and the switch still only worked on low. In fact i removed the relay entirely and the switch would still work but only on low as it had already. I need to know what to do next. Also I damaged the switch the final time I soldered in the relay and now I need to know if a switch from my 89 gtu will work on my 87 na. I appreciate anyone's help in this matter.

thanks

I don't know for sure, but I would think the 89 would work on the 87.

I replaced the relay in my wiper module, and that didn't fix it. It probably should have, but what I found was that one of the PCB pads had lifted off of the board and so a connection to the backside of the board was severed. I used a jumper wire and it all works fine now. Look for more bad solder joints on the PCB, as well as anything else suspicious.

As I've said in other posts, if you want to replace the relay, do all 3 of 'em ! Yes, one's for the rear but do it anyway.
Also take care not to damage the vias (plated through holes) on the board. Also : check the entire board for hairline cracks and bad solder joints - resolder as needed.
While you've got it apart, pull the switch itself apart, check and clean the contacts and relubricate it as required. Put it all back together and it should be 100% ok. If not, you may have a faulty component and given that they're mostly SMD's and largely unobtainable, go buy a new or s/hand wiper switch !

yeah all wiper switches are interchangable.

The only difference is that some have an extra switch for the rear wiper (ie GXL models) instead of a dummy switch like Kurgan

you prolly heated the board too much and caused the pad to lift or maybe you used the wrong relay.
