That sounds REALLY crazy...but after looking at that picture ( If its actually accurate ) I guess it makes sense...

Although it still kinda strikes me as odd...

Do you honestly think Mazda are that stupid? The scoop works. The intercooler works. People need to stop refering to that damn drawing as gospel on how everything on the car works.

If you want to run your TMIC with that vent instead of the scoop, go right ahead. Let us know how long it takes for your engine to detonate to death...

did you not notice that the T2 has a raised scoop which would completely alter the airflow over the hood? see how the air pressure is down where the hood meets the windshield...the raised hoodscoop should create a similar effect.

your point would be correct if there were just a hole in the hood.

maybe it's just me, but the turbo hood should change the aerodynamics and have a completely different air flow pattern on the hood.

Now I see the first good reason to put a turbo hood on an NA.

And - Yes, that pressure profile is only for an NA hood & no wing.

There was a major post on this on SF forums awhile back for our cars. Apparently if we did a scoop in that location it would decrease radiator performance, so everyone decided to scrap the idea of custom hood scoops.

Heat outlet using reverse louvers.
A little weight reduction is a bonus.

Looks good man. As far as reducing airflow through the radiator I would tyhink the opposite would happen. With a vent on the hood it would create a low pressure area sucking air out of the engine bay which I would think would cause more air to flow into the engine bay. The most direct route would be straight in through the radiator.

I don't like how it looks, it looks strange being raised and venting rather than an inlet. But that's just what I think

Looks nice,
I prefer the reverse scoop with turbo vents myself.
functionality & form blended with artistic precision

that looks very nice as far as I can see. especially when you are using the FMIC. I was thinking to that scope after I changed to FMIC. enjoy

Watch, evil aviator is gonna be in here yelling at you guys in a minute. The scoop works. Look at the diagram... see the area where there is a pull away from the hood? That is caused by a fast moving stream of air over the surface (this is how an airplane wing works) and the scoop traps that flow and it hits the IC. I have found bugs squashed in mine.

Wouldnt happen to have any before and after temperature readings? Looks good though.

And I'll have to take the impacted bugs as proof that the scoop works. I can't see them fighting against the wind just so they can have the pleasure of dying inside my car.

I don't think it did anything... I cut the hole in the hood bigger too.

It does look good!

However, looking at the one picture you can see the stock fan. It seems like the vents sit right over the stock fan. So, it seems if you have the stock fan/shourd it would do about nothing.

But it looks good!

From what I have been reading the best way is stick with the stock fan/shroud.

No personal experience yet buy my Greddy kit is in the mail. That is the current coolant plan.
