New owner of '89 Vert

hello all. I am finally in the family. I picked up the '89 Vert off a member on this board. runs great. body needs some deffinite TLC. so it'll be a little project of mine!

have a coule questions...
*sorry in adance fo rthe dribble I am typing, just got off work and I am POOOOOPED*

1: If it normal to have misfires when the engine's not warmed up yet? currently, you can start the car and it'll itdle as it should but every few seconds the exhast will make a "POP" sound. when you just rev it quick it does it much mroe noticibly. when driving, it does it between shifts. Once the car's warmed up it doesnt do it at all that I've noticed. when I watch the tach, every time the popping sound occures the revs drop a little bit.

2: When at a stop... i have the car in neutral and when I apply the brakes, the lights on the cluster flicker quick and the RPM's drop. idle after warmed up is around 500RPMs. when coming to a stop or pulling it out of gear it will drop into the 400 area and recover back to the 500's. Is this kind of idle behavior normal?

3: WTF is that BOV sound between shifts? sounds cool. (no, it's NOT turbo's) is it the air pump or something winding down?

4: Lastly... where's the best palce for aftermarket parts for an S5? and anybody know where the best place for a new Vert top is?

thanks fellas!

If So There Are A Couple Of Shops In Southern Cali That You Can Go To And There Is Also Websites That You Can Try For After Market Parts As Far As The Top Goes You Can Go To Any Body Shop Or Fabrication Shop And They Will Take Care Of That

Welcome to the vert club!

3. Sounds like the airpump. I think I recall reading someone having a similar issue.
Sound like this? https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/squelling-belt-airpump-574553/

4. What kind of parts are you looking for? I'd rather avoid ebay than recommend it.. Some have good luck there though.

Thanks for the welcome guys!

the sound between shift actually only happens WHEN i shift. I think it's the synchros spinning up... which is weird because I rev-match my gears.

there is a pretty big exhaust leak toward the front of the car. I took a look under the car and the cats/resinators are pretty banged up.

I shouldnt need a tune up. the entire long block only has 12k miles on it.

Also, is it normal for heat to come up through the shifter? it gets a warm... not hot. but I can smell rubber after driving for a little bit.

I bought a new top for my car through AAC I believe. It was a few years ago, but it was a good investment. Also, I suggest taking it to an upholsterer to get it done, because it was a huge pain in the *** and a stress factory. If they charge under about $800 it's worth it, with top of course.
