New-Old-Old RX-7 owner

Just wanted to say "Hi" and introduce myself.

Many many years ago, I owned a '88 GXL RX-7. Right before I got married, I sold it. I have regretted it ever since. Well, I have finally tracked down an identical car, to the one I sold those many years ago, and bought it! Don't ask how much, because it was a purchase of love, and cost me a bit more than KBB.

Anyway, as I get back into this ownership thing again, I will be reading the boards, and looking for maintenance tips etc... Since I am in my mid 30's, I wanted something that was stock, (not going to mod it) with low miles to become a sunday driver (boo if you want to). I plan on keeping this car till I am really old and gray...

Congratulations and welcome aboard

I had my 7 parked for three days fixing some oil lines and it felt SO GOOD to get back in the driver's seat. I can hardly imagine what it's been like without one for so many years

btw, GXL = any pics?

Welcome- I started out with the same mentality (late 30's now) when I got mine- keep it stock and reliable for a daily driver...However, I gotta tell ya, the car is much more fun to drive with a nice high flow exhaust and intake system...Something to think about when your stock cats clog up on ya...

I have other cars that are modded, either for show, or performance... this car will be my pampered baby.

I will have to share some pictures at a later date. I will be picking up the car this weekend. Going on a road trip... Heading out with my Avalanche and a car carrier... comming home with a RX-7 in tow

I seem to be having some trouble posting pictures... let's try this again.

This is my wife's car. It's a '99 VW New Beetle, modified for show. It has some performance enhancements on it, but their is only so much that can be done with a 2.0L VW.

My Chevy Avalanche.

This has a modified air intake, supercharger, exhaust, headers, plugs etc... I have never dinoed it, so I don't know what the performance gain is.

then I also have a '33 "Vicky" that is in the works.

wow, msn.com did a cover on gas mileage a few months back. i believe the Avalanche was under the new Lamborghini as worst gas mileage. i think it tied city, but was rated .5 higher for highway (something like that). then you go and supercharge it? that must cost a bit at the gastank.

Actually all the performance stuff increased gas mileage. Before the mods I was averaging 17mpg after mods I am averaging 22 mpg (Mostly city in both cases). And yes, with a 31 gallon tank, it costs a bit at the pumps... but, it also takes the cheap stuff.

even 17 is better than what it was rated at. i thought it was 14. its been so long, though, i dont recall exact numbers. i would think the supercharged v8 would be hurting you. well, i'm glad your mpg isnt half bad. i talked my mom into getting an Insight (60-100mpg), but there aren't any in the area that i can find.

Wow, there's a couple of us that got "hooked" and had in-betweener cars. I took two years in between my rx's. Getting back into one made it just seem right. Hard to explain it but they do make you keep one around. Sure you aren't going to mod it? Not even just a little?

Your not old yet.
I'm 60 and I just did a single handed J-spec swap.

I will probably put a drop in K&N, and other minor stuff like that, but nothing that actually changes the car. Rims are a possibility, with the stock rims going into storage. I am just always reminded of my father's mustang and t-bird, which he kept stock from new. They were worth nothing through the 70' and 80's, but in the 90's they all the sudden became collectable, and the prices on them jumped. Maybe something like that will happen with the 7's

BTW, I need help coming up with a name for my car. I have always named my cars, but I am having a hard time with this one. Any good suggestions?

Welcome back to the rotary!

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm going to try and buy back my first FC since I miss it so much. Don't even care if it costs too much also.

The simple fact that a 1.3L motor is capable of handing larger engines their ***' just makes it that much more fun!!! I smoked a 1.8 Jetta last night on the way home...poor guy was PUSHING that little car...he was PISSED! Hehe I love my RX!

Well, I have everything lined up to go an pickup my GXL tomorrow.

So, if you see a Orange Avalanche pulling a Uhaul trailer, through Indiana, Ill, or WI... don't forget to honk and wave.

Sunday we will be hitting the Upper Peninsula, and then down the middle of Michigan.
