Hi,
My name is Chad and I build wooden boats. Oh sorry wrong forum.
Just recently over in the wooden boat world we were talking about rotary engines in boats and with me having one I thought I would come here.
First history. I have a 1986 RX-7 with 157,000. I bought it a couple of years ago and just absoulutly love it. Here is a photo of my car.

The car runs great and is in great shape, but being 17 years old and with that high of mileage on it some of the incidentals are starting to have to be replaced or repaired. You know stuff like that $270 light switch or that alternator that had to be rebuilt or clutch lines, well you get the idea. And we will skip over the stuff that don't matter like the power antennea or the power moon roof.
With that said I thought I would come here and register and as little problems occur I would come here to get answers. Sound fair?
First question. I heard there is a fix for the flooding problem that you can sometimes have. Do you know of this fix?

Thanks for the reply. I read the quick fix about the relay under the dash and that sounds good. Next time it floods I will try that.

Cold flooding (as covered many times before) is a result of low compression or leaking injectors.
The majority of the time Hot flooding is caused by driver error (giving the car gas while starting) or leaking injectors.
In only about 5% of the flooding cases, there is a blown transistor in the ECU. It is very rare to have happen and happens more often in the 87 model year T2 (the N332 ECU) than any other model.
If you are having an occasional flooding problem, you should not worry, just like the owners manual says on starting a flooded engine, you hold the pedal all the way down while cranking and it should start fine. DO NOT PUMP THE PEDAL WHEN STARTING.
Again in non-flooded cases, you should not touch the pedal when starting unless the temp is under freezing, in which you should only pump once, then try starting.
If flooding happens often, have the compression checked and if compression is okay, have your fuel injectors cleaned and/or replaced. In 95% of the cases that will solve the problem.
Micky mousing a switch or other method of fixing a flooding issue is not recommended unless you are too cheap to fix your car the right way.

also don't forget to change the oil everytime you flood the motor as to avoid thinning out the oil with gas.

Appreciate the advice. I rarely have problems with the flooding. Seems like it likes to happen when there is a sudden temp change outside. And this happens about 2-3 times a year. And yes starting a flooded car is the same no matter whether it is rotary or piston. I like the idea of pulling the fuel pump reley to help start it if it does happen. Didn't think about changing the oil after flooding.
