New issue for my car...everyday something else

Well i need to know how to determine if the 5/6 ports are wired open or what- without taking the car apart. The motor was assembled and put in professionally by the previous owner's generous wallet, The car runs like a bat out of hell with minor hicups here and there, Well i tried to move the "plunger" for the ports today and it is in there solid...or out there i really don't know. What are the symptoms of open ports
what are the symtoms of closed ports

please clarify the usage of the ports and an easy way to check them and fix the problem if any...

I am getting bad mpg's does this coincide at all?
the car is fast all the way into the redline. Let me know. thanks.

Easy way to check if they are working. Get some white lithium grease from a car shop or hardware store or something. Put a small amount of the grease on the rods of the actuators (the parts that go in and out when it *should* be opening and closing). Put enough on so you can see the white layer of it. Then go out for a spirited drive redlining it a few times and varying the rpms (keeping them above 4000 every now and then). Go back home or whatever, turn the car off and pop the hood. Look at the rods on the actuators, did the grease smear at all? It should've if they are working properly, you WILL be able to tell if it smeared. If you can't tell then the rods probably were not moving in and out which means the ports aren't opening. Just make sure you put on enough grease that you can see it and will be able to tell if it moves around. When you are done with this test whipe the grease off, it will collect dirt and crap. If they are not working you'll need to take them out and clean/lube em up so that the rods go in and out smoothly.

Hope that helps.

In a thread I saw your sig and noticed you have a streetport. Ever thought of just removed the actuators and sleeves? They can become a restriction, actually, on ported n/a's. Read this thread in the archive if you're interested

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...hlight=porting

It gives you the info on doing it and whether you should or not.

Heres my thoughts on removing the sleeves. On a nearly stock engine, the gains are minimal, and you probably lose some drivability, gas mileage, and all the other boring things for minimal gains in hp. Once the mods start stacking up, though, the sleeves start to become one of the biggest restrictions. You will find that most of the people with ported n/a's with a lot of mods have removed them. This is because the gains are much more on an engine the flows much more air than stock, and the losses are minimal.

It all comes down to your mods and your preferences. The more mods you have, the better removing the sleeves will be for you.

It's just a thought, you can read that thread and think about it some more. Plus this way you never have to worry about if they're working or not
