Question New here, paid 100 for 89, MMO start ?

Did some searching, and I see MMO, (Marvels Mystery oil) in plug holes to get started. Bought car, 100 bucks from friend, wouldn't start, and read to put MMO in holes overnight. Next day, replaced with new plugs, fired right up, but smoked like a siv. It's ok, but how long is it gonna smoke? I'll post pct. of engine. Clean, but did I put too much MMO in it?

Thanks for your advice.

Dont worry about the smoke, let it run for a while. Though give it a quick sniff, if its a sweet smell its coolant burning off....a bad sign

No sir, it's not sweet. Just a bunch of smoke. I read about compression check, and I have a non-rotary checker, and took off schrader valve, and when my associate and I checked the compression , it read 3 equal bumps, and the number on the L and T for the holes was 105 + or - 5. That is preety good , right? Has 88,000 miles on it!

Good god...youve scored a great motor for a hundred bucks. the smoke you percieve is just the mmo burning off then. Let it run until it goes away then enjoy yoru find. congrats on finding a s5 with low miles.

not that i've tried using motor oil or starter fluid to get a car started, but i remember reading alot about it and ALMOST used it

but one thing to keep in mind, next time if u ever have to do that again.... don't leave the fluid in there overnight....ESPECIALLY ATF, becasuse it is VERY corrosive....

and 105, nice compression =D

Now I'm confused. One of you says its ok, one doesn't. I am not as smart as you all are, but don't you guys agree one way or another. If I got a great deal, I need sound advice. I don't want to drive this car if people are not sure. Im sorry, Im new, and young, but I love this car. Who is right? Can I call somewhere and get a correct answer?

I got a great deal for $100 and also the compression is close to perfect. Take it for a spin.

Cybaster is not saying that there is anything wrong with the motor, just explaining that if you try using the MMO again that it is not recommended letting it stay in over night because of the corrosive nature.

No, I am leaving overnight again, I was worried about all the smoke. Thought it was on fire. I almost call the fire department. I am gonna drive tomorrow, if it doesn't smoke like that. It is real strong, scares me a bit. It really doesn't go over 100 though, right? that is just to sell the cars.

let the smoke clear....
most cars using these type of cleaning will smoke like crazy for more than 5 minutes.... it does not mean it is bad

now after the patch of smoke clears, if u KEEP seeing more, and the sweet smell etc etc etc... then u might have a problem on your hands....

but lets not worry about that right now.....
just so u know, last time i used seafoam, it smoked for over 10 minutes.... and thats only seafoam, if u use any sort of ATF trick or whatever, it may smoke longer....

but honestly 105 compression is a GREAT number, i am sure u do not have to worry about it......

one last note, if your car constantly floods, and u have to put fluid into your spark plug hole to start the car, then i would check out the injectors and the injector seat for any leaks,

search around, there are plenty of info about that

if it is not HORRIBILY flooded, then HOLD the pedal to the ground and crank, don't pump the gas pedal..... if that gets it started, then this method is a much better alternative to start your car than the oil in plug trick....

if this doesn't work, pull the EGI fuse, and hold the pedal in the car and crack twice or 3-4 times for 10 seconds each, with 15 seconds of rest in between...... then plug the EGI back in....

if THAT doesn't work, then u should use ATF... cuz as i said before, ATF is corrosive, and if used in excess.... that 105 compression will be GONE

rx's aren't happy unless they go over 100, trust me, they do

Well, you guys were right. Smoke all gone, and this thing is fast. Had my older brother drive it, and we got it over 100. Scary. My photos suck, but here is the best one I got of engine. Now I have to figure out idle. Its erratic.
