I've owned numerous turbo cars and enjoy them. I got into building custom supercharger kits on other vehicles and was telling my friend about my desire to put a cent. SC on my FC. He suggested I give the camden a look-see. I've done it. I'm moving on.

I think a good NA carb build and some spray will be plenty for me and look great.

Well said rotordad. My last setup netted nearly the same #s as yours, but I was running the Holley and she netted right at 275. I was also running a unit from Rotary Performance, not Atkins. Maybe they have changed something??? I eventually moved on a went with a full bridge on my 4-port 13B and a 150 shot. Since that ride, I've had nothing but turbos and probably won't ever steer away from turbos.

I'm the one who suggested he take a look at the Camden. Don't ride him too hard. He's trying to learn and some of you do come off a little strong. I've been on here long enough to know that most everyone here doesn't mean to come across as they do.

I've been working on these things since 1986, and am currently building my son #22 of my RX7s. It's different, not that it hasn't been done before, just different. I know that rotary people like to be different, and Matt is no different. He wants something that you don't see everyday. A Camden in Alabama is almost never seen.

He wants a nice carb setup, simple and dependable power, removing the majority of the wiring in the bay, so I've suggested he just stick with a IDA, nice port job, and a RB exhaust. That won't get him the 250 that he's looking for, unless he goes crazy with the porting. But, it will be solid and steady power while keeping the car fun to drive.

Take it easy on him. He comes across down right awful sometimes, but he is here trying to learn.

I have to admit that if this would have been another certain forum, things wouldn't have went down this way. It would be at least 800 posts of all sorts of stuff and about to be locked down.

Most people on here are civilized and you can learn plenty. But, as with all boards, you have your fruit loops that think they know everything and don't have a clue about what they are saying.

Stick around and read some more, as others have posted. Maybe something has gone awry since the earlier days of the Camden. Being in AL, don't forget that you will need to adjust for the heat of the Camden also.....if you ever decide to do it. Grab a IDA,have fun, and forget about it.

I'm not going to do the camden. I'm most concerned with pulling stuff OUT of the engine bay and dropping weight.

I think the carb + spray will provide plenty of motivation and still look very nice in a freshly painted bay.

p.s. Todd, what do you think about a super white with heavy pearl flake?

I do love a white FC, but I dunno about that flake yo! If you are going to that, why not just paint it like a bass boat?

It's your car, bro, paint it how you want it. Just because I wouldn't care for it doesn't make it right. If you like it, do it!

no clutter is for showcars if u want a showcar but if power is whatu want just port it carb it put big jets racing beat dual exhaust light rotors clutch and flywheel nitrouse and your off. youre engine might explode though. but seriousely putting a carb will need some mods (some more expensive than others) ive seen some n/a efi doing 200 bhp sure they have a shitload of wiring and the engine bay doesnt look sexy but they still have air or p/s (never both as far as i know) its all about balance, and what you want.

I wont have AC or PS. I wont even have defrost or blower motor on the inside. I'm toying with the idea of using an iPad as my center stack and media center instead.

I'm looking for a show car that wont get embarrassed by a civic.

Todd, my Mazdaspeed6 was a pearl white and it looked great up close but I didn't think the flake was big enough to make it pop from a distance. Maybe I'll let my body guy weigh in on it to see what he thinks is "too much".

I'd have to disagree that no clutter is for show cars. I've ran big power out of very little engine clutter, that's what I am actually building right now (just not as much power as in the past).

Roto racing, being from Puerto Rico, I figured you might be the same as the many Puerto Ricans that I call friends. All build their rides with little to no wiring and most exceed 500whp. Nayeli, Adriana, Rivera, Padilla....all those guys don't have their engine bay packed with accessories and wiring.

We all do things differently. The result is still the same, usually....we all love the rotary.

What's wrong with you making that decision. If you like it, does it really matter what others think? It's kind of like this thread, several have expressed their opinion of not preferring what you are doing, but you still are going through with it. Does it really matter what the body guy says? or me? or anyone else? Well, maybe your wife.

the wife runs the show! My body guy is a professional. If he says it'll come out like crap I believe him.

Random people on the internet I don't know don't have that same pull!

alright you got me i read what i wrote (kinda embarassed at that fail) . i only read the first post so i understood that u wanted a carb for less clutter (in my P.O.V its kinda the same). also i have met all those people and u forgot to mention the rotary master Luis "berto" Vivo. hah but truthfully i was kinda defending my EFI since im the one boasting 150 bhp n/a. and yeah i was the typical bare rotary only powering the alternator. which was alot of fun till innoticed a/c was alot better in 100 degree temps, plus i just got an SA which will be my race car and my fc will be the daily driver. the kind of no clutter on a showcar is the one where you only see an engine and the wheel wells ( no wiring ), clearing that up.
also i love rotors just look at bam bam in my pics.

I think I could modify the center stack and use the iPad as a mobile media center. I want something simple for audio and having a graphical display in the car that size is always neat (IMO).

I've been thinking and it seems you can declutter a simple EFI system just as much as a carb. A set of ITBs would have only wires for the injectors, TPS and IAT. Two fuel lines, and hide the regulator in the cowl. The ignition system would certainly have less clutter because the dizzy and all it's wires are replaced by a CAS. The coils can then hide anywhere and the spark plug wires run along the frame or something. The CAS cable is one 4 conductor cable, easy to hide and there is only a CLT sensor after that. One vacuum line goes into the cowl for both the ECU and the FPR. That's very little wiring....

But, Aaron, to be safe, he would need to add the addition of a stand alone. As you state, not really any additional wiring, just more expense.

I agree that your idea would really cost about the same as an IDA setup, with very few wires. The expense would certainly increase...don't you think? Correct me if I'm wrong.

paul ko's yellow FC had 2 round mil spec plugs where the heater hoses were. basically he made it so the engine harness plugged in at the firewall, and so swapping from like 2 to 3 rotors, or FC vs FD is an easy plug in

but using the heater hose holes for the engine wiring does a really great job of hiding it (them?), they just come straight out of the firewall, and end up under the intake.

i would think a centrifugal s/c would work really well with the rotary....

EFI can be expensive. PowerFC and Haltech being the main culprits of maxed credit cards. I built a megasquirt setup for $700 with all new parts. If you reuse the stock sensors and cleaned up/reused a stock TII harness you should be much cheaper.

The Mil-spec connector is called a "cannon plug." diyautotune has one for $30 and its small enough to be hidden easily. if you wrap up the wiring and run it under the manifold you shouldn't be able to see anything.

If you want to go with nitrous then NX has a kit called the proton. its good to 150hp and the solenoids are already packed into a nice anodized black box. not to mention its about $100 cheaper than a comparable NOS system. toss in a TPS/window switch and your ready to roll. If you really want to push it NX also offers a direct port install service for around $200+ parts. yes, they can also hide it under the intake too.

Next thing to clean up would be that ugly fuse block that Mazda used. You can get some nice stuff from Painless and go from there.

after that your engine bay should be damn near spotless.

I agree a newer designed centrifugal than the old Paxton/Nelson would do well I think. A twin screw could be nice jump over the Camden roots, fight the heat with a water to air aftercooler or a simple water meth inj.

.
just and FYI but i'm into my 48 IDA about that much. $450 for the carb, plus the rebuild kit, jets, emulsion tubes, venturis, etc etc

the other IMPORTANT difference, between the carb and EFI, is that when you want to change the mixture, you hit a key, i order jets and wait for them to come in, sometimes from italy...

everyone thinks carbs are soo cheap, but its not true, especially if you need to buy an intake manifold..
