Hi guys. Can you help me with a question I have?
I've read the pinned posts on top but I noticed when I spoke to my friend who got me hooked on these cars told me that mazda strangely runs the stock ecu to be very, very rich at high rpm. Why Is that?
If you lean out the ecu, you could experience phenominal fuel mileage, Increased power and probably a motor that would last just as long as say a stock setup. This Is what he told me. But why did mazda do that?

I have recently been discussing the very same thing with several people I respect in the rotary world, and the suggested conclusion is that Mazda engineers run the rotary rich up high to act as both additional cooling and using the fuel as additional lubrication when the motor needs it the most.
Given so, one does get "additional" hp, by leaning out the mixture at upper RPM, but if the conclusion is correct, then leaning too much (much like too much boost with inadequate fuel mods) will result in premature engine failure.

also, why it run rich at lower rpms guys? I find this to kind of defeat the purpose of cooling and lubricating at low rpms considering the motor isn't generating that hi a temperture? I think this is important too!
