New To The Forum - Exhaust Question

Hey guys,

I am new to the forum. I just picked up an '87 RX7 with the Sport package. It has a Manual traney, 13B - NA.

I have a new Cat back exhaust system and wanted some suggestions on catalytic converters/presilencers.

What would you guys recommend? Racing Beat advertises a Catalytic Converter Replacement Pipe with Presilencer* for $305 and about a 18 HP gain.

Eventually, I am going to install a set of headers (when I change Autocross classes).

Thanks

Or a waste of time .

I say buy the Header/Presilencer right away OR buy the Bonez race pipe. It costs less then the RB setup and its cheaper (since you plan on ditching it eventually).

Is it a stock cat-back?

Currently, I have the stock cat back and catalytic.

The one someone gave me is not stock. It is an aftermarket catback. I am not sure of the type. It is ready to bolt up to the cat.

I am just not sure I what I am gonna do cat/presilencer wise yet. The stock cat. is shot and I need to replace it.

Just gut the cat, screw the environment. Unless you do emmissoins testing in your area.

Is it dual? Any names on it?

Otherwise my recommended setup might just be too loud.

I don't think the Racing Beat cat delete with presilencer fits with the stock exhaust manifold, I am pretty sure you have to buy the header to go with it? Someone correct me if i'm wrong?

buy the RB flange and get some 3/16"-1/4" wall tubing and make your own headers or take it to an exhaust shop and have them do it, as long as you provide the supplies it won't cost much, that is depends on what you want to do with them.

I recommend the RB DP/presilencer combo. Its high quality, has a good sound, and most inportantly keeps you aux ports working. The cat delete pipe (used to be called downpipe) connects the stock exhaust man to the presilencer. BTW, the bonez kit is of questionable quality. I had one that was only a few years old and was badly warped from the heat.

Its the NA downpipe and presilencer, it bolts directly to the stock exhaust manifold and to the stock y-pipe.

Not really. Most of the answers are either off a bandwagon response or have no knowledge and misinformation behind many of the posts.

Who actually thinks they bought a bad product?

Same here. When I bough the car it had a bad exhaust leak because the bonez midpipe was warped all to hell.
All of my information is based on first hand knowledge. I had the RB DP/presilencer kit (now have header) and it works great. Before that I had the bonez cat replacement pipe and it was junk.
