New FC,already overheating!!!
Hi guys,
I decided last week to buy a fc turbo II.Went looking and took a test drive, the price was right and the car looked OK.
When i was driving home the temp gauge stood at 1/4 th in the range,i think this is normal.after 1 hour of steady highwaydriving (120 km/h) I decided too make some use of the turbocharger .After driving 220 km/h for a while (10 minutes) i pulled over to rest a little.I let the car cool down by letting it idle. When i looked at the temp gauge it was at 3/4 and rising. It was not in the redzone/danger zone.
But what did happen was that it was overflooding, the fluid was boiling and liquid was thrown out of the reservoir. And all this happened with the meter at 3/4 th.
I let the car cooled down and drove to my home which was a few kilometers further. There i let the engine totally cool down and filled the system up the way the workhandbook advised. When i started the car nothing was wrong,no white smoke or strange smells out of the exhaust. The radiator and hoses were also warming up gradually so i assume there is a flow in the cooling system.
I took the car for a spin and temperature was at 1/4 all the time. After driving 30 kilometers the car began to heat up again when i was in front of a stoplight. When i was home the meter was at 3/4 th again and coolant was cooking and thrown out of the plasic reservoir.
I checked the forum but couldn't find a solution or similar problem. The fan spins so i assume it is ok.I don't have white smoke and what i also noticed is that my heating was not constantly warm while the switch said warm.
Does anyone have any clues or suggestions on what to do?This is the first day i owned this fc and it's allready giving me troubles.

If it overheats when you stop and not when you are moving, its your fan clutch, so it sounds like your fan clutch is gone. When the car is warm, the fan shouldn't spin very much. Just because the fan spins doesnt mean its moving mutch air. I had one that went out and it still moved, but I could stop it with my hand (kids - don't try this at home) If you warm it up and it spins freely, you need a new one. They are really damn expensive from mazda, so try to get one from a junk yard.\
Edit, just noticed you were from the netherlands, so I don't know what the junk yards are like over there.
Also, what year is your car? 3/4 isnt too bad on an s5, but its real bad on an s4. Generally anything above normal is pretty bad, due to the crappy stock temp gauge.

Thanks for the quick reply!!
I have a spare fan with the clutch jammed (smacked with a hammer) so it is always spinning as fast as the water pump. The previous owner gave it to me.
It think i am going to mount the fan with the jammed clutch. If the problems are gone i know where it came from.
In the Netherlands there are almost no rx-7's sold so there aren't many around on a junkyard.I heard a new fan here costs around 500 dollars!!! thats sick man.
Is an electric fan a good option by the way?I think it is cheaper than a visco fan.
By the way my car is from 89 and it's a s4.The engine is a s5 model by the way.So was in danger ??? it doesn't smoke white at all so i think i am lucky.

89 is a S5 but 1/2 is normal temp so I will assume you have an 88S4. And your clutch fan is bad. If you go electric well the issue is the stock ALTS do not put out enough AMPS to run then :-/ but make sure you get a good fan! Cost around 200$USD

Wel my car's engine is original a S4 but the previous owner replaced the burned engine for a S5.
What is the temp level i should check because i the meter is of a S4 and the sensor of a S5.
I saw that the day before i bought the car they had rechanged the filler cap. Is there a difference between a S4 and a S5? and how can i check?
Tomorrow i want to change the fan for a jammed one just to check.

I jammed the fan and drove for 5 days. The temp. gauge never was above 1/4, so far no problem.
Now i checked my cool-resevoir and it was far above full, i checked my cooling system and there was air in it.
What can be the problem, how can i check it and most of all, HOW CAN I FIX IT??????

First, check out http://www.aaroncake.net/rx-7/cooling.htm . It covers all common cooling problems.
Secondly, it sounds like you have a small leak in your cooling system, a bad pressure cap, or both. Check the hose that leads from the pressure cap to the recovery bottle especially.
