new exhaust smell?

i just had a car sound cat (magnaflow) put on to my car about a week ago, along with all new piping to a magnaflow muffler.it sounds amazing but theres this funny smell. it doesnt smell like fuel, but has a sort of burnt smell to it. i checked and theres no rubber or anything melted to the piping. im just wondering if this is what happens when u get new piping. is it is getting treated or something from the heat. or do i have a burnt cat. and is there any way to find out if i do have a burnt cat.

You gotta be careful with aftermarket cats- not all of them are made to take the furious heat of a rotary engine's exhaust. And not all muffler shop guys know this. So it is possible if this cat weren't designed for this application that your cat will be toast in a matter of weeks.

I work for my local Mazda dealership and I know that brand new cars have a waxy sort of sealant on the exhaust systems which burns off after about 1-2000kms. Stinks like **** and definitely smells like burning.
