new engine running problems?!? help?!

perhaps someone could shed some light on this problem. My friend and I just finished putting a second hand engine into his '88 TII, and we're having a few teething problems. The engine started fine, straight away, it would sit and idle, but wouldn't rev at all, just bogs down and dies. But now, im not to sure if he's changed anything, it will start up fine, everytime, run for about 10 seconds and die, again and again. Seems to me like a fuel problem.

i had the exact same problem a couple of times on mine and both times it ended up being my air intake hose was loose where it mounts to the throttle body. That will do it every time
