New Engine Prep...?

I haven't bought my engine but I was researching what I have to do before the thing goes in. I've been lurkiig for a while now and I realize that there are a couple things that should be taken care of please correct me if I'm wrong and feel free to add others...

1, oil pellet removal
2, (S5) OMP Removal
3, Take care of rats nest (emissions removal)
4, Any more??

Drive Train I have an S5 GXL, I believe those didn't come with LSD. I plan on getting the mazdatrix drive shaft, what lsd options do I have with that NA Rearend?

Thanks Guys

The builder should take care of this by putting it in during assembly. I include the aftermarket pellet replacements in all my builds.

2, (S5) OMP Removal
You cant remove the s5 OMP without a full aftermarket computer that most people aren't going to buy. IF you want to, you can unbolt the OMP from the engine, put a blockoff plate there and run premix, but you HAVE TO leave the OMP plugged into the engine harness and leave it laying somewhere in the engine bay. Otherwise the ecu will throw codes and go into limp mode which is no fun.

On an s5 NA, rats nest removal doesn't accomplish a lot, but it can certainly be done. The issue is that the nest controlled the 6 ports and VDI, which you don't want to give up. By the time you re-engineer them to work again, you've cluttered the enginebay half up again, and cost yourself more money. It can be done though. http://www.rotaryresurrection.com/2n...s_removal.html

Get a rearend from any 86-88 GXL 5sp or 88 GTU. That would be the 4.1 LSD that matches your car. You wouldn't need to change anything, it is a direct bolt in. 86-88 GXL automatics have the LSD but it is a 3.9 rearend that you would not want.

I think you are missing out on the big idea of a new engine. You want to do more maintenance and part replacement, not necessarily a bunch of mods. Repair or replace anything that is suspect and could affect the new engine. Flush oil cooler, replace oil cooler lines. maybe go with an aftermarket metal radiator that won't leak or crack, and will hold more coolant. Clean fuel injectors, replace fuel filter, that sort of thing. Here is a list to go by.

If the OMP goes bad you will get a check engine light/code and the car will go into limp mode, which doesnt allow much acceleration at all. There is no alternative short of the methods described above. There is no way to run a stock ecu without the s5 OMP. That's just the way it is.

I completely agree with everything you said, but I thought I'd link to the OTHER solution you have on your site as good reading for the OP.

Thats probably the simplest, most clutter free 6-port and VDI solution I've seen. With good quality air valves and some fine tuning, would be a very robust and effective solution as well.
