new coolant seals cracked

I was laying all my parts down ready to assemble and noticed 2 of my new inner coolant seals are cracked at seam. one is barely and one is 3/4 through. Has anyone run into this and if so what to do. They are not halved, ha ha. I would not use a torn o ring but is this normal. The kit is a reputable one but not oe. i do not want an internal leak but was really wanting to assemble and get engine in this weekend.

No other comments on this. with the small cracks at intake area and all the hylomar with it compressed down will it be ok.

I would say no. Compare it with a piece of paper. It's a lot harder to begin a tear when there isn't a tear in the first place, but if there is a tear it's much easier to keep tearing it. I'm sure the seals would act the same way, and I would say it's only a matter of time (not very long, maybe 1 to 500 miles even) before it breaks.

I only was wondering. Ive only built 2 rotaries before this one and never had any cracks on any. I found it weird that there was cracks on 2 of the 4. I was not sure if it was somewhat normal or i just happened to receive a couple bad ones out of all the hundreds they produce. The other times i used oe.

It's hard to say why they were like that. Sometimes stuff has manufacturing defects or was damaged by the shipping/handling process. I had two brand new Atkins Rotary oil control rings messed up during my build, one was busted before it came out of the package, and the other broke during installation (which really should not have happened, I wasn't being rough with them). My next build I'll definitely use OEM control rings, used or not. What brand are these seals you have?

Get new ones. I'd replace them now with the engine cracked open and not have to think "what if?" later down the road...

I hear you, man, I had a TON of **** go down right when I got fired. Engine fire, then a week later my motor locked, then I was scrambling for two weeks to get my motor built so I could start my new job. I ended up getting it running the day before I started the new job. And that's just the half of it... the rest is personal crap with my wife and whatnot. Just keep pluggin' away at it, maybe ask your boss(es) if you can get some extra time off to work on it if you need it to get to and from work.
