New clutch now the rear end is clunky

Hey guys i picked my car up from the mechanic on a friday arvo so I havent been able to go back and ask so i figure ill query you guys =D anyway my clutch was starting to slip pretty bad so it was time to go. I just got a coushined button ceramic clutch installed in my car, and figured while it was in there i would get them to change the diff oil and do a quick retune. The guy calls me up and tells me they found a small water leak that is coming from either the inner manifold to engine gasket or the the inner banjo bolt of the turbo and i tell him not to worry about it i can fix it myself. Anyway i pick the car up and its driving fine and once it warmed up properly i gave it a WOT and smashed second gear, the car felt like it was axle tramping it was really rough. I get home and look at the recipt and on the vehicle report under the water leak it says "major knock in rear end" WTF they call me about a minor leak but not this. Now is it possible this knock is due to the harshenss of the new clutch, im running a cusco 1.5 way lsd and have pretty hard suspension and grippy tires so it could be backlash through the system as its so solid now. Or if they have put the std diff oil in could it be causing problems with my lsd. The recipt says they used Mobil L S 85w/90 now i dunno what the std stuff is and cant find on the net what oil my diff requires, can someone shed some light on this for me

sounds like your front diff mount is sheared.

Hey sorry to thread jack...I just replaced my front diff mount (orig. one was split in two) and my car is still clunking (more like a 'bang') when I shift. Is there an easy way to tell where to go next?

Slo...check your front diff mount. If it's leaking fluid or if you can raise the diff with a pry bar it's probably the culprit. If that's not it, perhaps you have the same problem as I do?

Well i haven't looked at the mount. But the car wasn't doing this before I dropped it off at the mechanic and it is now. I think the diff is a viscous type could it be the fluid

You know i took it for a drive just then and now think it is the mount. Are these normally expensive?

Make sure you install a pinion snubber so you don't have this problem again.

Its on the drivers side of the rear end unit. mounted on the side of the rear end pumpkin.

You broke one of those round mounting rubbers...how?

if those big mounting points/rubber mounts are breakin..you go something not right under there. Those big round mounts don't break, well not oftend anyways.

I have seen those big round ones break, but that was because each side wasn't tighten down together or equally...

Well I havent gotten under there and looked yet but the mechanic said that one was in half and the other wasn't healthy. Im guessing im gonna see it when i get under the car tomorrow night. But i picked up the 2 big rubber mounts from mazda today and was asking them about the front mount and they looked at me like i had no idea what i was talking about

Oh and i know how the big one would have broken, a 6grand launch with a broken front mount would do that

doubt it!

I have raced mine broken before, it just feels like its coming through the back of the car..I can't see how you really broke those, just being honest..those are really thick and not to much movement back there, they are only there for ride comfort, you could just mount it solid, but it would be very harsh ride, thats all.

maybe you and I are talking about something else?

Hey Slo... just out of curiosity, if you get under the car could you take some pics of the two mounts? I have seen so many posts of people replacing the front diff mount but not the rears. I am just curious as to the condition of the front mount as well.

well I'll definetly let you guys know what I find I got the car on stands and the exhaust off but that's all I had time for today. I have no idea how the mechanic could see the rear one was broken cause I sure can't tell but I have 2 new mounts there so I'll probably replace them. I found the front one in the fsm and my new front should arrive tommorow if they are busted I'll put up some pics but they might break coming out as it takes 2 tonnea to press them in
