New car, couple questions.

Sorry i haven't posted in a while. there haven't been many threads that interested me. anyways. i just got a 91 coupe with 6K on the motor and 78K on the car. here goes:

when the tranny is cold (morning) it's a bitch to get it to go into first. is this normal?

there's a clunking in the back when i go over bumps in the road. does the rear sway bar attach to the body? my 323's did and when the bushing was gone it would wap against the floorpan.

would the oil filter spacer from fc3s.org be a worth while purchase so i don't get oil everywhere?

i will need to replace my brake master cylinder. where could i get an OE one cheapest?

where can i buy a FSM?

you can download a fsm from some web site, im not sure right now because im at school, when i get home ill check my favorites, my 1st gear did the same thing, my problem was my throwout bearing for my clutch, but im not sure if its the same as yours. And for the brake master cylinder, just go on yahoo type in 91 trx7 brake master cylinder, and fund the cheapest one. Have fun... i love my 91 i hope you like yours

i don't want an online FSM i want a real on that can sit on my car while i'm working on it. i'd prefer an OE master cylinder. i probably am dreaming though about not getting reamed on it.

http://www.mazdatrix.com/m-1.htm for a factory service manual

Not sure about where to get a cheap brake cylinder....try posting "wtb 91 brake master cylinder" in the for sale section. I am sure that someone hasa parts car with one that they wouldn't mind givin away for a few bucks.

PS- Does the first gear grind happen when you are all warmed up? Or only when you are cold? Make sure and keep your tranny nice and full with the RIGHT WEIGHT fluid.....I use Redline MT90 tranny fluid and it works great.

only when it's cold. once it's warmed it's fine. it doesn't grind it's just a pain to get it in there the first few times. the tranny seems to be normally notchy when it's warm though. i don't even have a problem downshifting to 1st at a light.

use a screw driver to pop a small hole in the top of the oil filter, before draining the pan and most of the oil will flow back down into the engine and pan before you remove the oil filter.

I thought the oil filter spacer/catch from FC3S.org is for adding extra sensors like oil temp.

That's usually the trailing arm bushings.

Mazdaformance also has cheap service manuals.

Believe it or not, the best deal I found on a new master cylinder was from NOPI. It was less than $70 shipped to my door. It's made by Tokico.

The oil pan holds something like 4.7 qts. I've always dumped in 5 qts.

Also, you might want to check your spare to see if it's loose. Might be the thing clanking around back there.

Always check the simple crap first.

Might be time for a simple tune-up. Do all the basics first, plugs, wires, etc. I get about 20 mpg in my 91 with a combination of city/highway driving.

well my airfilter was dirty as ms. aguilara so i changed that. i assume the plugs were new when the new engine was put in, but is 6K longer than rotary plugs live? the wires are dirty, but they're NGKs so i assume they're holding up.
