The speedometer is purely mechanical. One single cable from the back of the speedometer to the left side of the transmission. Its a broken cable or its loose at the speedometer.

The tach runs off the TRAIL coil assy. The one located near the brake master cylinder. Check and see if your trailing plugs are firing.

And, RESET the computer. Unplug the 2 fuses closest to the engine... give it a minute and plug them back in. Then try it.
(That may help on the tach issue.)

there was a writeup about this problem happening when the Battery or something was disconnected, then reconnected. I think that what Brad said is what fixes it.

questions

ok so tomarrow I'm to reset my computer removing two fuses and then check my trailing coils...
1) how do I check my trailing coil assy.?
2) Is my speedometer cable the on that runs in front of my intercooler and in front of my alternator?
3) would firing my alternator cause my trailing coil to go bad?
4) Anything else I should know?

Go to the trail coil assy. Pull both wires out and lay them on top of the brake master cylinder with the the end of the wires within a inch of the holes on the coil assy. Heck, just lay them on the edge of the hole.Start the car. If the coil is working, the coils will arc a spark out of the bore of the coil assy. I just did it on my n/a. The spark leaps for a little over an inch. CAn't miss it. Write back if it works or does not work.

Throttle cable is the one you described going in front of the intercooler. The speedometer cable is directly aft of the oil filter and just to the left. Located on the bulkhead. Goes straight down as it leaves it the interior of the car. Goes where I said it went in the earlier post. Not related to your other problems in any way, shape or form.

yeah... so... it's not as easy as reseting the computer

so I tried to reset the computer... it didn't help with the tachometer... I was mistaken about the speedometer, I simply wasn't moving and didn't realize lol. but anyways what do I do now... I'm gonna go try the test the trailing coil thing.. but I wanna make sure I do it right. I simply unplug the wires from the coil and lay them about an inch away from there female counterparts. If there's a spark I'm good as far as the trailing coil goes.

Is there anything else I shoudl know?

No. You got it right. Just pull the wires out of the bores of the TRAIL (rear coil assy), and lay them close to the bores and start the engine. You'll have no doubt if they are sparking. They'll crack, snap and pop.

This will determine if the wiring to the tack is bad or the coil assy.

Oh shucks yes, there is something else. Just start the engine without doing a thing. Tach not work? Just rap on the face of the meter. Yes, the plexiglass cover. If the tach still does not work, try the bit about pulling the wires out of the trail coil etc.. Write back either way.
