New 88 T2,First 7. Wont start,interior sweat
Finally got my first rx7. I've been searching for a while and with a little bit of a drive I finally managed to come across a rust free clean turbo. Although it's only a little rough I still think it's a great car and I'm happy I got it.
It's an 88 Turbo with 100k,completely stock. Definitely needs some all around tlc and due for a tune up plus heavy maintenance.
The only problem is it not starting. I assumed it was a fuel system problem but haven't checked yet,I've been checking all the wires and grounds+ecu,CPU fuses first. And I've noticed there is a lot of corrosion on the interior(more then underneath it) behind the pedals and instrument cluster, due to "sweat" and leakage from the sunroof. Has anyone else had this happen? Anyway to stop it in the future and what are the definite things I should be worried about due to that corrosion. And what else could be stopping the car from running?

You need fuel, you need spark, and you need air. That's all an engine needs to run so check to make sure you have enough fuel, spark, and air and not too much of any either. It's as simple as that to start. Double check with the FAQ:

Yeah I knows this has been covered, I've searched plenty and know what to look for,and it's rust against the inside firewall, but no where else inside. I can already see a few problems with my clutch switch, and possibly the ecu once I get past the stupid plate to get to it. It cranks and sparks, the battery died before I could check the dash for any lights.

the sunroof has 4 drains.
One in each corner.
2 run on each of the A-Pillars of the car.(one per side of windshield)
You can have hoses that are cracked or broke or not hooked up that can allow water to seep in and onto the dash/firewall area. This of course is not good for the ECU either if the water gets to it.

And the car definitely wasn't in a flood,I pulled the rest if the carpet and middle plastics apart and didnt't find any other rust.
I'll be getting to the ecu today If I have time, there is plenty of rust around the plate so I can't wait to see what I find.

So here's an update, after checking all the wires and grounds+fuses, ecu,CPU an relays. I then hooked the battery back up,the instrument cluster does seem to be working, nor does the radio or warning light/clock. But the light switches, wipers blinkers work, air con and heat blows air. Still turns over but won't start.

After installing the new ecu,and clearing some water out of the fuel lines. Found out the main relay was bad behind the driver side strut tower. Now the only electrical problem is the instrument cluster, radio, warning light/clock all aren't working. It also has a very bad exhaust leak
