Question New 87TII and wondering...

Hey guys, i finally got ahold of my dad's 87 TII and im wanting to put mods on. It currently has RB Exhaust and a new fuel cut controler (dont know what kind or anything). it also had a new core put in about 40k miles ago. He autocrossed the car while it was new and i want to mod it for the mod'd version of autocross and messin around with all my friends who are proud of their 'stangs. im just not sure what to do in what order. any help?

how long has the exhuast and FCD be on there? that is a deadly and unsafe mode list!!!! do you know how much boost you are running? first thing get a boost gauge and find out. I bet you are running over 10psi which is not safe. you are probably running lean and your engine isn't going to last too long.

well my dad had mazda do all of the upgrades and do the tuning for the mixture. also on the issue of boost im not sure whats going on. i have the stock boost guage and turbo on the car. the guage goes from -20 to +40 times 10 mm/hg. which means that the guage maxes out at 400mm/hg. BUT i just did the conversions and 400mm/hg = 7.736 psi and i dont come anywhere near the top of the guage. and as for the engine wear, the mods were put in when the car was new and he got 120k miles before he replaced it. the current engine has 40k or so on it so it should prolly last a little longer. if im wrong about any of this correct me PLEASE so i can fix them.

Thanks very much,
Troy

Well with the FCD its making your ECU read stock boost levels, wouldnt that the stock boost gauge read only stock boost?? If Im wrong please correct me, but thats how I see it. And as someone above said, your probably running dangerously lean. Get an ECU soon.

ya the boost will never read high once your put the fuel cut defencer one. you should get yourself a real boost gauge and find out. your dad probably didn't drive it too hard on the highway, that's where the problems come from. in 4th and 5th gear you'll get more boost then 1-3.

alrighty so, first any suggestions on a brand of boost guage to get? and what about an a/f guage, ive heard their a waste and ive heard that you can get an "exhaust gas temp" or something like that guage (pardon me im new at all the acronyms) that will be better than the a/f guage. also what is an ECU and where can i get one.

aka
if you guys were in my shoes. starting with the new guages how would you fix it.

Ty again
