new 86 FC owner!

HEy all names jake and am new to this forum for the fact i just won an 86 rx7 with an engine needing new apex seals..Im new to this rotary business but very impressed with what ive learned and seen......My question is should i try to rebuild this and having to find the mechanic to do so. I dont wanna spend a ton of cash getting my non turbo 13b running. HOwever i found a 90 non turbo 13b with 32,000 on the block for only 500 bucks but there charging me 300 to ship. WOuld this be a easier and better route to go. IS it just plug n play? Please give me feedback asap cuz the auction ends in 5 hours! thanks and lookin forward to your requests

i went the other way, 1987 (s4) block in to a 90 (s5) car, i had some one else do the swap though. if all you are doing is switching the blocks, and keeping the original manifolds, i think it is fairly straight forward swap.

as far as a re build vs used, i don't have any advice, however make sure the used engine has good compression before you put it in.

and last but not least, look in the faq about un flooding the engine, a friend of mine bought a second gen form a guy that swore that the engine was blown, turned out to be flooded.

thanks for the fast response and yeah the guy has a pic of him using a compression tester and says on both rotors is from 115-125 psi.....dont know if this is good or bad but he seems pretty confident on what hes selling..should this be a go?

that seems like reasonable price and compression, however i would go out and try to un flood the car, just in case.

Look around the for sale section, people are always selling motors. I'm sure you can find a cheaper than $500 NA motor. I bought a TII motor for $450 about one year ago. If you're mechanically inclined, you should be able to rebuild a 13B. However, rebuild kits are pricey and hence you should look for cheap(er) motor someone is selling.

wait does it turn over at all? that would be te first step in checking if there is a potential for the motor to run. Also has the car been sitting for a long time?

from this thered,
https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/frequently-asked-questions-2nd-generation-rx-7-faq-fc-494667/
My car doesn't start
Remember when starting a fuel injected car you should never pump or press the accelerator pedal, but if it won't start it is probably flooded, Hold the accelerator pedal all the way down while cranking, do not pump the pedal. If it still doesn't start after a few tries, Then remove the EGI fuse and crank a couple more times, then re-install the fuse and try starting again. If then the car still fails to start it then you need to remove and clean the spark plugs, put in a teaspoon of good quality 20W50 motor oil or a teaspoon of ATF into the lower sparkplug holes, re-install the spark plugs and try again. Make sure you change your oil after you have started and run the car ASAP.
take the time to read the faq thread, there is a lot of useful info in there.

@beefhole; i guess i paid to much for my s4 block

edit: here is a much better explanation of un flooding.

he says that it does turn over but has lost power due to the apex seals. It still runs and drives he says and he also got a new clutch kit, fuel pump and brakes from what he says. the car is in immaculant shape for the price (500$ off ebay i just gotta make the drive to washington but thats gonna be tomarrow so im pretty stoked about my purchase. IM just tryin to figure out if i should wait on the motor thats ending soon and just check things out and see if its anything that bad or what. i only have like 4 hours left for the auction tho the only downside to the car is the red interior lol other than that i couldnt ask for a better deal

I bought my NA motor for $100. Pulls hard. Look locally.
