new to 2nd gen fc

ok well i just got my 87 fc on monday, and started cleaning it out during the week, just recently stripped the interior but the problem is coolant seals are blown. now i know that its a complete rebuild, my question is what seals do i need to replace, i found the list for rebuild but is that all necessary? also how do i know if my rotors need to have their seals redone as well?

You wont know what you need until you take it apart and measure all the parts to see if they are in spec.

Why would you take the time and money to pull the engine and rebuild it if your going to half *** it. Buy a full rebuild kit and do it right. Replace everything.

so i had a buddy come over and take a look at the car, we got it to run and it didnt constantly spit smoke, only when revved, smoke looked kind of blue, but not quite. he blew his head gasket once and said that his smoke was creamy white, also he talked with a buddy that owned 3 fc's and that guy said that it could be fuel in the exhaust burning up or something like that causing the smoke. he also checked the oil and said he saw no sign of water/coolant, and the oil looked new. my dad is also a mechanic and took a look at the oil, said no water or coolant. 3 other people saw it smoke tooo, and said it smelled like oil, but the car has been over heated before. we let it run for about 45 mins, and the temp. meter didnt go anywhere beyond half-way, if anything it was below half-way. oil seals?

My oil injectors went out and were dumping alot more oil into the engine for awhile causing lots of smoking. Replaced the injectors and solved that issue, then the car started smoking white. Went out one morning and started my car and coolant starting blowing into the road from the overflow tank. Rebuilt the engine.

water/coolant in the oil is no indication on a rotary as to the coolant seals in most cases. Unless you blow a water jacket...

Just do a search on blown coolant seals, you will find info on various tests you can do that will tell you whether or not they are blown....Also symptoms...

So is there an actual problem with the car or are you just trying to verify the coolant seals are OK? If you are not loosing coolant, not overheating and not blowing smoke then it's highly likely the coolant o-rings are not compromised.

It is VERY rare that a rotary will mix coolant and oil in the event of a coolant o-ring failure.

thats interesting to know, there is something wrong wit the car, no overheat, but it is blowing smoke when i gas it, only when i gas it for more then 30 seconds at the most, then it just smokes, when i lay off the gas, it stops smoking, so its not a continuous flow of smoke

Spending 800-1000 bucks for rebuild parts you dont really need...

some people have better things to spend that extra 200 bucks on.

Sounds more like a fuel problem then anything else if it's not burning coolant.

Not from what I've seen. Local auto parts store wanted $75 per side, dealer charged me $45.

nice, so i got the first rotor and housing off, and im having a little trouble with the intermediate? i think thats what its called, cant seem to get it off... inside of the housing still looks really good, the front plate and the intermediate look good as well, but in between the first and second seals on the intermediate and the front plate, there seems to be debris in there? didnt really take the time to inspect. the spark plugs have black stuff on them, i assume its carbon, same stuff on the side of the rotors, also theres black stuff in the intake manifold...dont know how it got there, and dont know how to get rid of it, neither do i know what it is... thinking its more carbon? ne ideas how it got there and how to get rid of it?
