Needing some help
I just got my 86 Mazda RX 7 a couple weeks ago and obviously I'm new to the rotary world. It starts up and runs as long as you keep your foot on the gas. As soon as you let off, the engine dies. I've changed spark plugs, checked vacumn lines, and adjusted the crank positioning sensor. Anyone have any ideas on what to do?

I'd adjust the variable resistor to full rich and turn up the idle adjust screw on top of the upper intake manifold.
The variable resistor is located on the passenger side strut tower wall next to where the AFM/airbox is.
Turn up the idler screw and see if the car runs like that. Then, bit by bit, turn it down until it idles below 1000. Do the same with the Variable resistor after you've gotten it under 1k rpms.
you may need to adjust the TPS afterwards too. Check the FSM or at http://www.fc3spro.com/TECH/HOWTO/TPS/tps.html

Funkspectrum- Thanks I'll give all of that a try and hope it works. I forgot to say that I can get the engine to run with my foot on the gas as long as it's idled at 2000 rmps or up but it smells like gas really bad at low rpms. I also forgot to mention its an '86 body with a '91 engine, wasn't sure how much of a difference that would make since its a rotary and I'm not familiar.
junito1- It still does it when you let it warm up but thanks for the reply.
