needed for rebuild?
needed for rebuild?
what parts and tools are need for a rebuild on an 87 na? how much and where can i get them? cheapest place? planning on doing it with me and my pops?
Well an impact gun would be the best but if you dont have one heres what you'll need. Sockets, 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 16mm, 17mm, 18mm are the basics. There are a few higher mm sockets you'll need also but im not sure on the numbers anymore. You'll also need wrenches that are the same size. A breaker bar. A torque wrench. Most are 150 foot lbs. You'll need 300 foot lbs for the flywheel nut. 2 1/8 standard socket ( I think thats like 54mm) i believe for the flywheel also. A pair of pliers. Phillips medium and small screwdriver, flathead screwdriver. Deadblow mallet. A good jack to old the tranny up when the engine is pulled. Most likely a 1 or 2 ton floor jack.
As for the gasket kit. Right now I'm helping my buddy rebuild his motor. He picked up his kit from www.revolutionrotary.com . It was like 800 bucks. Alot cheaper then i saw at other places. It comes with pretty much everything but the side seals, water seals and I believe corner seals. We also picked up some hylomar, a can of gasket maker, assembly lube and marvel mystery oil for reinstallation.
Just some advice. Seperate and label everything. There are alot of vacuum lines on these cars and there a bitch to rerun if you have no idea where they go. We learned that the hard way. Also save all of your nuts and bolts, put them either back on the block where they came from or in seperate baggies with labels on also. It takes up time but it helps in the long run. As for cleaning everything also, We used oven cleaner on the outside of the housings and kerosene to clean the rotors. It came out pretty clean. Carb cleaner also kicks ***. Might as well scrub that engine bay out also while you have the motor pulled so a good bottle of degreaser can work wonders. Hope this helped. Peace.

I'd say around 900 for everything. That was with the rebuild kit and all the fluids and supplies. As far as the other seals I'm not sure on prices. The website I gave you above doesnt carry the individual parts so you'll have to order them from mazdatrix. The rebuild was pretty easy. It was the first rotary rebuild either of us have done although we have both rebuilt piston engines in the past. So if you have ever rebuild a piston engine you should not have any problems with the rotary. Just take your time and follow the manual.
Don't forget the proper measuring tools. I believe 75mm -100mm outside calipers for the rotor housings and dial guage w/base(can't remember what its called) for the plates and end shaft play. And last but not least the 13B rebuild video from www.atkinsrotary.com. Clean everything till it looks new.
