need suggestions (newbie needs helpo)

Alright, me = 17 year old biznatch. cars f**kin rock except all i really know about cars is which imports are which, i know the outside of my imports, but engines are out of my league, I'd like to change that though, I plan on buying a 2nd gen RX-7 GTU, GSL SE, or TII. I'm in Canada now though and pretty much all thats for sale are GXL's and GSL SE's, so i might go down to the states and pick up a TII there. Things i wanna know:

1- It seems as though rotary's are a bitch and always break down, t/F? (explain)

2- would this be a good idea for first car given my little amount of knowledge about it?

3- how much would going down to the states and picking one up cost (car?/traveling?/boarder ****?)

4- I'm not looking to spend more than $4000 US, (preferably less), still a good idea??

5- how easy is it to learn about rotary's??

6- I need to learn about the engine on a rotary so i can do it up and make it fast, i also need a place to find good parts for cheap, any suggestions on where i can learn about it? how about where i can find good cheap parts??

1. Rotaries won't break down if you take care of them.(Not gonna get into how to, you'll hear it from someone else)
2. They're awesome cars, I loved mine since day one and it's no big deal that it's your first.
3. NOT worth it, I've checked into it myself.
4. You can get a good TII for $6000 in Canada...be patient, and check into the engine of the car...see if it will last you.(ex: 160,000km's on a TII = not good)
5. Very easy. I have been hooked on them for about a year...they are simpler then pistons.
6. rx7 specialties in Calgary is very good.

to answer in order:

1. Nope... Rotarys properly taken care of will outlast many piston engines, as well as have considerably less moving parts. They are just different. There are not to many piston engines found in cars less than $50k that can run to the redline every day.

2. Sure, the motor is the only thing really different, but its still and internal combustion engine.

3. don't know... in California its pretty easy to find a N/A FC in decent condition for around $2500 (USD), add $500 (USD) for a convert and add $1000 (USD) for a T2.

4. I don't know Canada's import regulations.. so its hard to say.

5. No differnet than any other car. Maybe even easier.

6. Plenty of wreckers out there. Try an internet search on Mazda Recycling, or Mazda parts

Ok I have to say this again, don't get a car from the USA. If you HAVE TO, or if there is a stellar deal, then make sure you look into it. Call your car insurer, etc. I called people and they didn't recommend it, then they explained it to me and I bought a car locally.(Well a couple hundred KM's away)
