need suggestion help

Recently my friend is deciding to give me 2 very bad condtion rx-7. Both are non turbo. One is 86 style and one is 89 style. 86 style have engine and tranny with bad body but 89 only have a tranny but good body. The 89's engine bay is clean as, no engine, no tranny, pretty much nothing in it. Its a great big hole in it right now. The 86 will be used as a donor car but at this point I don't know what direction I should go. I am thinking about a turbo engine and salvage whatever I can out of the 86. I mean, whatever there are to salvage. I am really dumbfound by this.
I know nothing about rotary and I don't have much money. It will really help if anyone can give me some suggestion on what I can do with these 2 cars. I am thinking about selling it as well because ultimately, I want a mr2 but... hey, these are freebies, might as well take it right? If I want a turbo engine, what will I need other than get a turbo engine. There is a big potential here to built a great car, I just don't know what to do with it right now. Like what can be used out of the 86 if I go for the turbo route and how much will I be looking at. If i go for using the non turbo engine, what can I do with it? It need to be rebuilt so I was told.
Oh, I work in a body shop so if anyone of you need a repaint or something along the line, ask me about it, I can give you a very reasonable price. I just started the body shop business and I am looking for some job right now. (I don't do the painting yet, still under training in that department, my partnet who been in body business for 20 years do the painting) my e-mail is funky76monkey@mailasia.com

Anyway, Thanks to anyone who can help me out. Thank you very much

welcome to the club....kinda wondered why someone used the name MR2 for a SN here, lol, anyway...I'm no expert so I'll answer your questions as best as I can, seeing as I've looked into it somewhat, as I own a vert and am looking forward to doing a turbo swap sometime.

You'll need the motor, but you've obviously figured that out...also suggested is to get the T2 drivetrain: tranny, rear end, and so on...you'll also need to make sure you get the T2 ECU for your car, as the N/A ECU apparently will not work for this...and I think you'll need the wiring harness as well, although I'm not completely sure on that one...wait till later when one of the more informed people is on...I'm sure they'll either confirm what I've said or ream me for misinformation anyway, have fun!!

Keep the 89 since the body is in better shape. Part out the 86 for profit. Use the profit netted plus some additional funds to purchase everything you need for a TII drivetrain conversion.

yeah, it all comes down to money... if you've got it, get a rebuilt '89 engine put in the '89.. Get it ported if you want power, and it'll blow an n/a MR2 away in a straight line and any mr2 away once you get to the twisty bits...

the TII swap is cool, but, unfortunatly, its also $$$$... You're going to need a TII engine and ECU. If you're thinking about making big power, you're probably going to want the transmission and diff, too.

Do you want a car that you can drive right away and have it be reliable? then go the rebuild n/a route.
If you want something that's stupid fast but might not be as reliable, go the TII swap route.

there's always v8s, too....

V8? This thing can fit a V8? Its small as it is, how can it fit a V8? I don't want to see a engine rip out by itself and runs down the strip and the body is still sitting there.

I am looking for a semi reliable and semi fast car. I just want a normal turbo for now if possible. So, if i go for the normal turbo, I will just need the turbo engine, ecu, and wiring harness right?

Can anyone educate me on rx-7 as well? Give me a rx-7 for dummy lesson here. Just the gen 2 will be fine, like what model does it have, different type of body (model number), different type of engien (engine model). I really appreciate all the help I am getting here. I might start liking a rx-7 more than a mr2 now.. hehe....I don't think that is possible.
