Ok, i just purchased a head unit for my car. Its a sony L550X. All the wiring and everything is as it should be however there is a large black plug with 5 connectors in it. I had the stock CD player, stock casette player, and regular AM/FM radio with the listening position thingamabob. What do I do with the black thing? Im comtemplating ripping all stock amps and crap out and just installing my own equipment.
To answer my own question all 4 speakers are working however I cannot adjust the front and rear balance....oh well. However now i have some wiring problems. First off the interior lights no longer work. Also my hatch and door open warning lights stay on even if all the doors are closed. Any ideas what this may be?

ah sounds like you blew a fuse there are many that cover that area and be a bit more discriptive about the black thing it may be for a changer but ussually changers have more conectors than 5 if your deck has a fair amount of power you should be by passing the stock amps they are old and useless.
I just left the black connector unplugged and it worked fine. Im still having the wiring problems though, i just hope that the wiring for the warning lights didn't run through that black plug. Ill hafta check it out more thoroughly tommorow.
Get rid of the stock amps. They are worthless as long as your head unit is half way decent. When I put in my head unit, I cut all the Mazda crap out, and soldered in all my own wires. The stock Mazda plugs are all jacked.I had to cut them individually and hook them up to find out where they went.It took a while, but everything turned out great.Good luck
