need some tech help please.

have the opportunity to buy a 87 Turbo2 which is in the process of a jspec swapping out the blown motor. it'll be running when i buy for about 1400. now. he has a FCD, and runs a straight pipe to the muffler. no cat. has transferred all the wiring from the us motor. now would i only need a cat to pass CALIFORNIA smog? also, do you think the reason he blew the engine was because of the missing cat raising the boost to much? because i need to drive it down about 55miles to where im at. and i dont think he has a boost controller. need any info you guys can give me.

As long as it's running ok, keep your foot out of it and you'll be fine. Hopefully there's a boost ga.,other than factory, in the car. Engine could have been tired, overreved too many times, sustained high boost, poor fuel management, etc. California emissions-I would make sure that emission parts are with the car, just in case they've been removed, esp air pump and parts.

without knowing exactly how the car was setup from before, there is only going to be speculation on what could have happened. Was the dp changed or was it jus the cat that was removed? With the fcd an no other mods it should be fine for u to drive.

I swaped a Jspec before and all the emmissions **** if not moved to the Jspec engine, you will have none.

Also if you get this car, the upper intake has to be swapped..for emmissions to work correctly.
Unless I got a freak engine.
