Need some random help

Heya, i just bought my car. It's an 89 gtu. But i have a problem. I filled it up cuz it was on E when i bought it. But when the needle went below half tank, it just dropped to E and sat there...
I could have over a quarter tank and it still shows that it's on E. My battery meter does the same thing, but every once in a while, it'll pop up to where it's supposed to be... I found that if i disconnect it and reconnect, it'll work for a while.
How can i fix this?

it is a 16 year old car, some things will not work like new from factory. Sensors, cabling, and guage electronics will eventually break/wear out. youve just got to test and figure out if its the guage, old cabling, or the sender.

Since you just bought, go download the FSM or buy the haynes and start performing some maintenance on it.
