Need some help from the TII guys
Alright, I'm gonna need some advise here guys, cause I really want a TII but I don't want to spend a lot for a project car. I test drove a TII yesterday, and here's the deal: '87 TII, 130,000 miles (rebuild 20,000 ago), paint in bad shape, the interior is OK. My concern is with the turbo....first off, it wasn't rebuilt when the engine was (which imediatly scares me). Second, while I was driving it, the boost gage never moved while I was driving (the only time it even fluttered was when I was at a light and lightly reving just to get going. Third, there was a hiss (kind of like an exhaust leak, but without the loudness) which leads me to believe that there is something wrong with the turbo.
I don't mind getting myself into a project too bad, cuase I'm trying to keep my NA, but I don't want to get into a project after paying the $2,500 he wants for the car.
If anyone could help my decision, that would be great.
Ryan
P.S. sorry for the length, but I want to give as much info as possible, so I can get the best advise.

if the paint is bad and the interior is just ok, then its most likely not worth 2500....
my paint is in good condition (not perfect)
as is the interior, and the turbo was fine, and i paid 1200 for mine.
just my opinion, but if you really want a TII you might wanna hold out for a better one.....or get him to fix the turbo if hes gonna charge that much??

The car isn't worth more than $1,000.  There's at least a boost leak somewhere.  The car doesn't sound like it's been maintained that well.  I would offer the guy $600, and see what he says.  I doubt he'll get anything close to what he's asking for, except for some sucker.

if you floor it you'll notice the boost.....
its not hard to tell/feel at all....
keep your eye on the guage......it might not hit boost right away but it will move......floor it and see what happens....even if the boost is good....which i highly doubt it is....ITS NOT WORTH THAT MUCH!!

not to confuse you but...
the hissing may not be the turbo, and the boost gauge may be not functioning. Does it go like stink?
take it to an experienced rotary mechanic and look for records. It's kind of impossible for anyone on here to accuratly judge the car.
