Need some help: odd coolant problem, driveable for a little bit longer?

This happend once in the summer, and then now 2 days in a row...

I start the car and within 5 seconds the add coolant light/buzzer starts off. I shut it off and wait for it to depressurize.

I top off the coolant (with hardly anything). I then turn it on again and within a few seconds the buzzer/light goes off again.

I decided to just let it run and within 4-5 mins it stops. Coincidentally it stops right when the temp. guage in the stock cluster starts to rise a bit...

There is a bit of white smoke for the first 1-2 min.

I just want to ask if the coolant seals are blown or about to blow... as I just need to drive it to my storage unit and I wanted to see if that'll be ok.

It's getting rebuilt for next season anyways...

I appreciate the help,

Mark

It sounds like you have a bad sensor that should be replaced... I *think* it's the one on top of the radiator that just has the single wire going into it.

If you have no leaks and your temp stays good, then just ignore the buzzer/warning light until you can replace the sensor.

A little smoke on start-up isn't really a big deal--especially the first one of the day. If you were talking about a huge cloud of smoke on every start-up (either oil or coolant) THEN you'd be looking at a rebuild in the near future.

Hmmm I just put in a brand new coolant level sensor in during the summer, but I'll check the connection.
