Exclamation Need to rewire S4 harness for S5 turn signal

I know that this is somewhere in here. Icemark had a post with a diagram of where to move each pin on the S4 light harness to use an S5 turn signal switch.

Help anyone

Wait. What do you mean? You are plugging s5 turn signals into an s4 car? Is that all? Because you don't need any rewiring for that. They use a similar connector. You just plug them in and go. I have an s5 front bumper and turn signals on my '88 and I didn't need to do anything custom.

No. What I'm putting is a 91 turn signal switch on an 86. The connector is the same but the distribution of the pins is different.

I am sure that there is someone that knows where I can find that info. That's why I'm asking for a lead to a post made by Icemark.

He even sent me an e-mail with the info that I need and he said then: "you can also find that information on my web page" which of course is now not available.

HELP !!!

Wrong answer too. The harness is different on S4 and S5. The only way to do this is to use the S4 harness and re-pin it the right way.
You can only do it right in the first try. If messed up, you end up with something burned.

The following is from a post by Icemark:

"And one more time so it is clear, Left hand drive (North American style) Headlight and wiper switches are interchangeable between S4 and S5 models with only minor internal differences that do not effect operation and pin out. However Turn signal (which also controls the High Beam) and Cruise control switches are not interchangeable by series and would require re-wiring if using a S5 turn signal switch with a S4 headlight switch harness (and visa versa).

BTW: I posted up a couple years back what pins needed to be changed to use a S5 turn signal switch in a S4 car/light switch harness."

The only option is to re-pin/re wire the original S4 harness to accept the S5 switch.
Maybe Aaron Cake has the answer to my problem.

Why not just look at the FSM and compare the connectors?

Hi. I did, and still am in the process of figuring it out. The reason I'm so frustrated is because Icemark had sent me what I needed and stupid me deleted the e-mail thinking -"I'll ask him again when I'm ready to make the change"
I'm ready now but he's no longer with us, and his website, where this was available is down, and I can't find it. The job as I recall required, re-pining (moving pins around) and re-wire something (cutting and/or adding wires). Apparently it's not just re arrange pins. I already damaged a wire strip (and replaced it).

I'm loosing my patience.

the harness, turn signal switch, and the headlight switch must all be of the same series. the harness is only a foot long.

False.

S4 and S5 headlight switches are identical. I tested switches on my own car (S4) when I was rebuilding them. Both S4 and S5 switches worked fine in my car.

Harnesses and turn signal switches are different.

Have both harnesses. On the light harness side of the s4 it has one extra wire (blue/brown). But Pele you are right the s5 harness does work with the headlights but not with the turning signals. I have a (s4) and want to use my old harness so my turning signals work and swap out just the light harness with the s5 my original is burnt. Any ideas on how to get the wires out of the harness. I checked youtube and have many videos on the male pins but not any of a female pin.

You replaced the S4 headlight harness with the S5 headlight harness and your headlights work. Correct or not? If the headlights do work then when they are on and you pull back on the turn signal lever to activate the high beams do they work or not?

headlights work yes...but no high beams...or turn signals...talked to you about this in another post....my original s4 light harness has a good turning plug but a burnt head light plug. so I plan on using my old harness and cut out the burnt plug and using the good headlight plug from the s5 harness except there is one extra wire (blue/brown) wire in my old s4 that I have to remove and re-pin in the new plug. Problem I have now is getting that darn (blue/brown) pin out of my old plug to repin in the new headlight plug. I also plan on using the relay setup as suggested by Icemark.

That's probably because there is no relationship between the two as you must have another issue at play. It was suggested previously for you to check a couple of wires at the CPU which you never got around to for some reason.

I was waiting for the switch to come in first that seemed to be the easiest to do first before getting to the CPU. If the new switch does not work then the CPU is next. I want to thank you for all your help. I will get back and let you know how it goes with the new switch (guy says it came out of a s4). If by some chance it came out of a s5 will that make a difference....Thanks Again

Satch I want to thank you again for all your help. The switch came in and after plugging it in my turning signals and headlights work fine. I am not sure but it seems that using the s5 wire harness did work fine with my light switch but shorted out my turning switch on my s4 switches. I did compare both turning plugs and the wires seem to almost be reversed on the turning plug. It really is a shame that so many people on ebay describe the wire harness as good for s4 and s5 and they are not identical and have posted pictures of both plugs in another post.
