Need Parking Light help please

Ok, the basic problem is no parking/tail lights.

Here is what i have done and the outcome.

1-wire on harness going into switch was burnt and bare. Cleaned and taped the wire and cleaned switch. Lights worked fine for a while

2- Lights went off again. Replaced headlight switch. Lights worked when car was not running and ignition was off, stopped working once running.

3-replaced wiring harness to the headlight switch. At first no lights, switched back to old headlight switch and had lights again. But again they worked when car was sitting and now off again when running.

So end result is i can get them to work until i start the car and then once i start it they go off and never come back on....Any thoughts on this? Is it a short somewhere or what? A ground wire? I had thought alternator but nothing except the parking/tail lights is affected as far as i can tell. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

hmm strange problem...
just explain a little more about the "harness" you changed....

do you mean the WHOLE harness that is attached to the back of the dash...or just the section that plugs into the headlight switch?

have you checked all the connections to bulbs in the headlamp/parklamp circuit?

you could have a bulb socket that is corroded and shorting it out (may have caused the burnt wires on the harness to begin with) but its hard to say.....

i changed the harness from the headlight switch. i also checked the bulbs and they seemed to be ok. I had someone tell me today that it may be a bad ignition switch? seems odd that the headlights would work if that was the case though.

I really don't see the ignition being involved here but you never know - some electrical problems can be funny like that....

did you check ALL the bulb sockets - every marker light, headlight, taillight, license plate light on the exterior of the car?

how did the other end of the headlamp switch harness look?burnt? (meaning the end that DIDN'T plug into the headlamp switch)

what about your fuses...are you sure you have the proper sizes for the H/L circuit?
