Need opinions: Sell 88GXL for 86Sport?

Alright guys, I need your input for something I am considering doing. I currently drive a great condition black 88 GXL, all options (leather, alarm, everything that you could get except ABS). I have been granted exclusive rights to buy my uncle's 86 Sport, the car that initially got me into RX-7's back in '89. His car is red, paint fading, minor rust on a fender, non-funtional horn (I know how to fix everything wrong with it), but the best part is, it's a Sport. No sunroof, manual everything, only option being the AC... which doesn't work anyway.

With the intro done, here is my current situation. My friend, who drove a '93 Civic hatchback, recently had his car totaled by getting rear-ended by a Buick leSabre. He is looking for a car. I am considering selling him my GXL for about $1700 thus converting him to the dark side of Rotaries. I will then travel to Florida (from VA) and buy my uncle's car for probably $700 or less. That, along with selling my beater '87 Civic Si, will give me about $1500 towards a turbo swap. I would prefer to keep the car stock outside, meaning I would go with a FMIC. I will end up driving a crappier looking car, but I have wanted this car for a while plus it would be TII swapped; if there ever was a "perfect" N/A to turbo swap, it would be the '86 Sport.

Sorry for the long post... what would you do in this situation?

Personally Id keep the GXL, and just turbo swap it if you really want to. Yes its slightly heavier, but it also comes with a LSD, bigger brakes, and 5-lug wheels. PLus power stuff can be removed if wanted to. Swapping these parts onto the sport would probably offset the low cost of the car initally, plus youd need a paintjob. Why not tell your friend to buy the sport?

Ah yes, I think you're right, .....sorry brain fart, I just woke up Heres a list of standard features.

Still , I dont see a good reason to trade a perfectly nice GXL for a semi-shitty sport.

for a project car, i would see it reasonable as long as body is perfect (not talking about paint, talking about rust and body damage)

in my case i would take either base or SE

most of things will get replaced with new stuff anyways
but 5 lug to start with is better...

how about THIS--

Keep the GXL, sell him the sport FOR THE SAME PRICE, and keep the extra cash for your mods!! lol

It isn't like it would be an outrageous price for the Sport, so long as it runs and all. Not to mention that you know he will be hitting you up for repairs, questions, and all that, right?? Maybe I am just partial cuz mine is a GXL too....but the LSD and better brakes are more important to you since you're swapping in a turbo

Don't forget, the sport HAS big brakes and the 5-lug set-up, not to mention it doesn't have the BS AutoAdjust Suspension that the GXL has. It also has that neat-o factory aero kit. I thought the Sport had an LSD, guess not, but it doesn't matter because a TII rear is going in anyway (eventually). The point is, I have no money for a TII swap and I need to get rid of my Civic anyway, so if I sell my GXL to my buddy, I will have enough spare change to Turbo swap the sport (and be faster then my buddy in my old GXL!). It would take a hell of a lot longer to save for a swap for my GXL, plus it's a real porker with all the extra sound deadening, PS, steel hood, sunroof, etc.

don't forget one thing, you have to pay for registration and transfer title fees, I dont know what are your local rules but here in California if I want to register out of state car, I would pay 300$ +tax, +trasfer title, +reg...

actually if sport is mechanicaly in good sondition what florida car should be, for TII swap is better sport, if you want lighter car...
