need to know how to remove factory alarm

hey all,

i've got an 86' gxl which i recently installed a avital avistart 6500 in. now everything was working fine up until two days ago, now my car won't start. i suspect it has something to do with the factory alarm and the starter cut relay. does anyone know how to by-pass or disable the factory system?

thanks...

It may be different, but in my car the control unit for the factory alarm is next to the passenger dash speaker. Pull the speaker panel off and you should see a silver box. Just unplug the harness from it.
