Question need info about a '91

Hey guys,

I have the opertunity to pick up a '91 FC, i think it's a GXL because it has power everything, sunroof, factory AM/FM/Cass./CD, spoiler, factory fog lamps, red with black leather int., etc.

anyways, there are a few things that i want to ask because i currently have a S4 and don't know what to think about this S5. first, the engine has 115k miles on it and it starts up right away but the engine doesn't rev to 3k RPM like my S4, is that normal for a S5?

second, i didn't notice any rust around the sunroof but it does stick when initally opening and requires a little push other than that it operates smoothly. I know it shouldn't need a push so could this be a major problem or will a little lube go a long way?

finally there's a short in the stereo and it only work periodically. i don't think this would be too difficult to fix i'm just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem.

other than those things, the car looks like it's in great condition. the engine bay is really clean, there's a small dent in the front fender (nothing i can't fix), and the paint looks a little dull on the front of the car compared to the back.

well, that's about it, let me know what you think. the price definately seems right so i'm seriously considering getting it.

Thanks

hahah nice ebay quote sad to say that is for the dumbasses that dont know what an RX-7 is jeez....I say that is a clean car to pick up....My sunroof sticks just like that, so i dont mind helping it but sometimes it works on its own, either way its not a big problem...the whole 3k thing....something is probally unplugged (BAC) atleast in S4's that is what makes it not rev to 3k others say if you unplug something near the bottom of the radiator it will do the same but i dont know about that????

There was no GXL in '91, the n/a's only came loaded. Very few options (CD, leather).
The sticking sunroof is pretty much normal for FC's, clean/lube the tracks, roof surround and clean the seal with something silicone-based.

Car looks nice, but I'd suggest a compression check and CarFax.

By the looks of it in the pic I'd say the rear end was in an accident.

The sunroof and faded paint are a common S5 thing. You should be able to rub the paint out and lube the sunroof, however the rust is another issue. I would be leary of buying a car with any sizeable rust near the sunroof as it is difficult to fix and prevent from leaking. Its a call that you will have to make based on price.

BTW, in 91 there was just the Coupe, Turbo, and Base models. The luxury package added the GXL features, but the car was still just called the RX-7 coupe.

Ok, sounds good so far, sorry about the "GXL" thing, i didn't know they opted for Coupe over having so many different models like in years past.

About, the starting up, i realized that it was a cold morning when i was looking at it so that's why it didn't rev all that high. i know my '87 doesn't rev very well on cold mornings.

i'll take another look for rust around the sunroof, i've heard that can be a real problem with FC's.
